Alfa Romeo sales increase

Mon, 11 May 2009
Buying a car has been top of the agenda for Alfa Romeo customers over the last two months it would seem, as the company enjoyed "buoyant" sales during this period.

The Italian auto maker said it was particularly pleased about the results given the current economic climate and "a backdrop of falling new car sales".

Data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders showed that new registration statistics in March and April recorded a positive percentage change for Alfa Romeo's sales.

This included a 76.8 per cent increase in April. One of the reasons for this, according to the group, was the introduction of the Alfa MiTO.

"The technologically advanced and fun-to-drive addition to the range has been an instant hit," it said.

Earlier this month, Alfa Romeo announced it had joined the UK scrappage scheme and pointed out it would be possible to own one of the cars for less than £9,000.
