Fiat success may inspire car buyers

Wed, 01 Apr 2009
Motorists considering buying a car this year may be tempted to opt for a Fiat model after hearing about the manufacturer's latest success.

The company’s eco:Drive system received an honour at the recent MediaGuardian Innovation Awards, coming first in the digital technology category.

Users of the device will be aware it comes in the form of a USB stick that is inserted into the vehicle's dashboard.

This then records details of a person's driving style and the information can be uploaded onto a computer.

Once this has been done, motorists are offered advice on adapting their habits to reduce CO2 emissions.

Claudio Annicchiarico, head of digital Fiat UK, explained: "It's the first time that an automotive brand has launched an interactive technology that helps its customers improve their style of driving in order to help preserve the environment."

The device was previously recommended by supermodel Jodie Kidd after she tried it out in the manufacturer's 500 city car.
