UK to have 'world's first EV recharging point'

Mon, 14 Dec 2009
Those who have been considering buying a new car and were thinking of going green may be interested in news that the world's first complete electric vehicle-charging hub is currently being developed in Britain.

Infrastructure experts VINCI Energies United Kingdom have teamed up with Brighton-based Elekromotive to install complete 'Elektrobays' capable of juicing up electric and plug-in electric hybrid autos.

The latter's managing director, Calvey Taylor-Haw said: "This is ... a pivotal step in the deployment of a fully operational and networked recharging infrastructure for electric cars."

Managing director of VINCI Energies Peter Rooney said the future of these products could depend on the success of the new Elektrobays.

"The success of the market will depend upon the availability of accessible, reliable, secure and well maintained charging points," he explained.

Recently, Elektromotive revealed monitoring and invoicing technology at a Norwegian forum.

It was announced this innovation would be applied to the 160 stations currently operational in the UK.
