February 2014
Bought this car on 11th Feb from Kia garage in Derby . . . . On drive home the idle was so slow and lumpy I thought it would stall. When warm the tickover is 500-600rpm. I took the car back on 14th feb as it still has 1 year left on manufacturers warrenty. Their 'technician' had it in the workshop for about half an hour, only to come out and tell me all is OK and the tickover is 800rpm. When I led him out to the car and showed him the tacho showing 600rpm he just said . . . they are all like that ! Anyway I need to know what rpm to expect on one of these cars and what I should do next . . . . Thanks Read more
Had to change battery. New fitted car started and moved 20 yards. Left overnight but next day engine turns over but does not fire up. The word SAFE appear on digital display but I can't find anything about that in hand book.
Have read about immobiliser procedure but that doesn't help with starting.
Any suggestions please. Read more
Many thanks will try this. Ben
Hi
I would like some advice or guidance on a possible choice between a 2007 VW Golf 2 SDi or a 2007 Mercedes A - Class 160/180/200 CDi. Both with over 100k on the clock. The only thing I am sure about is that this Golf does not have a turbo, so that won't need replacing. What I'm not sure about is does any of them have the following:... Read more

Don't know if it is the same as the USA one. I can understand why Toyota GB stopped importing the Camry.
Hi All,
I booked my Mk6 2.0 CR TDI 110 Golf in today at a local VW dealer, to be told once they'd looked at it it required a new clutch and DMF after only 43,000 miles. 10,0000 of those were done by me in 7 onths from when I bought it in July.... Read more
Unless Ordovices knows the OP this just seems to be provocation.
Why is this provocation? Why could it not be a credible explanation? ...
It seems that our Gallic "cousins" will be trialling an 80 kilometer an hour limit in 10 "departments" before the summer on the equivalent of our "A" roads..

I live in France - there is a proposal to trial 80 kph limits on two way roads that currently have 90kph limits - the key word here is proposal, it hasn't come in yet, and nobody here has any idea of how they are going to do it - if they put signs up they will be vandalised or destroyed, it's a totally crazy idea.

The fuel pump on my P Reg 1.5 Diesel Peugeot 106 is leaking fuel- looks like from near where the pulley for the cam belt etc attaches. My car has an immobiliser key pad which links to the pump. Is it possible to replace the fuel pump and re-program the new pump, or must the replacement fuel pump come with its code?
I asked one breaker if his pump came with the immobilizer code and he said i would have to "take the solenoid off the end", but i don't really understand and don't want to throw good money after bad... Thanks
The car is only worth a couple of hundred £ so i just need to work out whether its worth trying to fix.... Read more
Ok thanks very much!
Need to change front discs and pads. As discs have an outer lip it's difficult to extract pads so would normally push in caliper piston with the bleed valve open and brake hose clamped. Just worried now after looking at a VAG diagnostic meter as it stated, amongst other things:-
-" Deactivates and re-activates brake control system
- Retracts calipers for brake pad replacement (open and close )
- Advances calipers after servicing to the original position without affecting the current calibration
- Initializes the wear indicator if new pads installed"... Read more

Any prices announced yet?
We have owned two mk1 smarts. Rear engine RWD works with them as they are so short the engine is directly over the rear wheels and the passenger weight is just behind the front wheels, so no mass of weight at the rear.
That said I have seen someone do a 360 whilst doing a right hand turn on a wet adverse camber. The traction control does its job, but you can't turn it off. Find yourself on slightly inclined wet grass with lost traction and you won't go anywhere until someone pushes you free.
These cars do have a boot as the engine and gearbox are so compact they are tucked under the boot floor. It was large enough to hold all our camping gear for a weekend away.

Was it like that on your test drive, if it was why did you buy it. Plenty of cars out there for sale.
Test drive another, if its the same they all do that, if its not return it ....
