Not sure if anyone can help, but I ahve some queries with my new TDI 150 A4. So far I have about 2800 miles on the clock and during my daily commute, I get about 30mpg. I was reading topics last night about the engine not warming up and possibly even using higher revs to warm it quicker, but not sure if anything in this. I know that you don't always get what the figures say, but in my mind 30 is somewhat different from the advertised 52mpg urban. Looking around the 'net it appears to be a common issue with this engine.

Winter does increase the fuel usage, but unless you live in the North we haven't had winter yet.

Its not just the temperature and snow that increases fuels consumption in winter. You have the lights on much longer, the heater, the heated rear window, the wipers etc and all these take electricity, that puts more load on the engine. Then add in the lower temps which means the engine takes longer to heat up plus it also cools the engine much faster when its parked up....

Diesel Alhamba, 2013, 7.5K miles.

Just bought this vehicle, and something I didn't notice on the test drive is that the bite point on the clutch is very low - if I fail to press my foot all the way down and leave the pedal a few mm off the floor, I can feel vibrations coming through the pedal. ... Read more

Take it back to the dealer and ask them to check it.

Ask to drive an identical car, if its different (more normal?) than yours use that as evidence....

Both Vx and Ford use post-injection of diesel to help with DPF regeneration. However, they don't seem to have the same issues as Mazda.

I had a Mondeo IV 2.0TDCI for three and a half years from new, with zero DPF issues despite my daily commute of just over 3 miles each way. There were no extra markings etc. on the dipstick

i had a cold start problem , read a lot of forum information on these mondeo problems , the car ran fine after first start of the day, it was fast smooth and no flashing heater plug light, no missfire or any other symptoms, new battery fitted last year and starter was spinning over no problem. changed cam sensor , cleaned out egr valve , checked turbo actuator ,no different on cold starting, i accidentally dicoverd the live battery terminal was getting very hot, it wasnt loose where it was crimped into the connector, i took out the battery , and solderd around the cable at the joint , hey presto starts first time now, so i now know that although my starter would turn the motor over for 20 mins or so when cold,it is not like the old days of diesal motors firing up on the slightest of turns on the starter, i hope this imformation might save someone the headache i had for weeks, voltage is critical with these motors ,check your connections , Read more

Could I ask what is the purpose of a V rated tyre over a H rated one for normal road use?

I have a Focus 1.6 currently running on V rated tyres. Looking at them, I'm going to replace all four, but I fail to understand why I need to replace them with V rather that H rated tyres, as the size/profile is available in both.... Read more

I won't / cant do more than 130mph in the car so hopefuly they'll not blow up and I'm sure I'm not risking anything by having these on :)

From a safety point of view you are risking nothing, as other have said the H rated tyres will be well up to the job of keeping a Focus on the road. However, have you ever had an accident and seen the assessor go over your car with a magnifying glass. He is not only looking for damage, he is looking for ways they can avoid paying out. Having tyres with a speed or load rating lower than OEM spec is one of those "get out of jail free" cards they look for....
