Autocar magazine has just taken delivery of a VW Golf TDI with 507,000 miles covered.
I wonder how many change because they think their car will start to cost them money in repairs. Often forgetting the value of the cheque being written to get what they hope will be cheaper to run. Read more
I'm currently looking at new (to me!) cars and I keep on coming back to the C Class and E Class - 2005>2007 with my budget, and likely a diesel. There's just something about Mercs that appeal to me, plus I'll be doing plenty of long journeys so want to ride in style and comfort!
But on my travels I've seen many a rusty old C and E Class (04 was the newest one from memory) - front and rear wings, tailgates being the main areas I've spotted. What I want to know is have Mercedes solved the rust issues since the supposed shake up in 2005/2006? I've tried asking at a main dealer but couldn't get a straight answer!... Read more
Thank you.
I did read on another recent thread here, about high mileage Merc diesels (also mentioned on how to recognise a facelift W211), so it's looking like a facelift W211 may fit the bill....

Just got told my whilst driving that my reverse lights are stuck on.
My dad's going to take a look, hopefully at the weekend, but I'm trying to get some advice/help before hand.
Any idea what could be causing it?
Where do we need to look to check the problem, and what do we need to do to fix it?

My renault Scenic seems prone to collecting water in the heater chamber which on two occasions in the past has meant replacing the heater motor at vast expence! Is there a drain hole that needs clearing out and is a simple way of doing so? My garage seems to think a lot of dismantling is necessary to get at where the water is but any advice from others who might have experienced this problem?
The scuttle drains are most likely blocked, meaning the scuttle is full of rain water
Well folks my motoring saga continues. RIDDLE ME THIS:
Acquired car from dealer in Cheshire on 18th Jan 2014. Already taxed to end of April. Tax was bought on 7th November 2013 in Skipton. Previous owner was a company based in Skipton.... Read more
There's nothing to stop you going back to the dealer, explaining what has happened regarding the tax disc, and asking them to put 6 months tax on the car at their own expense! Say you were mislead at the time of purchase and believed the car was actually taxed.
If you don't ask you won't get! The worst thing they can do it say no....

Its a popular car and everyone I know who has driven one has been very happy with Qashqai's so they are likely to sell well if well presented.

That was the first thing that sprang to mind when I read the title of the thread, They seem very expensive for a small car....

Volvo used to advertise their cars as lasting 19 years and if you go to the Volvo website there are some very high mileage older cars giving good service. My MB is 14 years old and I am not tempted to exchange. Some people like to change their cars often and others like me hang on.
