purchased an exchange refurbished power steering unit for my fiat punto in May 2013 which came with a lifetime warranty. Not long after my local garage fitted it started to have problems. Persevered as along as I could then it failed completely. This was within one year from original purchase. Company I purchased from sent a replacement and I had to pay the local garage a second time for fitting. I have sent letter asking for compensation for garage bill, giving them 28 days to reply, but as yet have had nothing back from them. If I take them to the small claims court what chance have I got of being reimbursed for the cost of fitting the unit for a second time?

Thanks for the response. guess I'll have to swallow the cost of the second fitting.

Hi all, back in September I bought a C5 2.2HDi from a family friend who bough the car new in 2004. Until I bought it he had only done 18,500 miles and it had sat in a garage most of it's life. Since I picked the car up in September I've taken it to 31,000 with mostly motorway journeys. I started the car up the other afternoon (I guess it was at about half temperature when I started it) and the depollution fault warning has popped up together with the engine warning light and the service light. No other details are offered.

Thanks - I just spoke to the previous owner and he reckons he filled it up maybe 40 times in the 9 years he owned it.
I've filled it up perhaps 20 times in the last 6 months so in it's life it's had approximately 60 tank fulls. Both of us have filled it completely each time....
I have an occasional misfire usually at low revs when under power. Its never cut out or failed to start. Sometimes it goes months and then reappears. Changed plugs and it seemed to disappear for ages.Checked codes (with a simple tool) last week and there was nothing stored. However, yesterday it was bad for about a mile with no acceleration and the engine management light came on. Then it recovered and is running fine now but the light is still on. Removed the plugs and I'm pretty sure no1 was not as hot as the others and it looked different. I have been suspecting the coil rail (but its hard to diagnose without individual coil packs) Been quoted £70 for replacement. Should I risk it ? but as its running fine again I may not see any improvement. If thats the problem would the light go off or need re-setting ?
(Also read about wrong grade oil causing valve lifters to stay open etc?)... Read more
Update : the new coil pack/rail seems to have done the trick. Left it a couple of weeks before replying to be sure. The engine emissions light stayed on after fitting new part., so had to get thet cleared. Vauxhall service told me it would definately go off if that was the fault but it didn't. The error log said 'cyl 1 misfire'
cheers, Mike

can the start/stop system be activated as I would assume it's just a software issue. Read more
Vehicles fitted wiith Stop/Start have different Alternators and batteries to their non-stop/start counterparts. Probably other differences as well, the starters may wel be heavy duty.
I don't know whether to praise Kwik-Fit for their service or complain about the quality of the parts that they fit. I have had (all under guarantee) THREE sets of front discs in under a year. Each time a couple of months after being fitted the brakes judder when braking, especially after they have warmed up a bit.
As the car has only done 60,000 (I have all the service invoices and MOT's to prove) I want to keep the car, but after the current set being fitted today, I only have a month before the overall guarantee runs out 29th March 2014. My mileage is well under 10,000 p.a.,so I am not getting many miles per set of front discs.... Read more
check control arm bushes a known problem
My owners manual states that the windows can be opened and closed via the remote control and also by the key. This does not work on my car. The windows all work using the switches including the one touch function apart from the driver's window which will not close by the one touch but opens by it. Just wondering if this function, opening/closing by remote control, can be disabled/abled by the VCDS meter. Do I have a fault in the driver's window motor control or in the switch? Also worried that perhaps a faulty window motor control may be causing an electrical drain as battery not holding charge.

Opening and closing of the windows with the remote fob is a feature that can be enabled on your model, although to the best of my knowledge not with VCDS. However you can buy a device called a KVW100 that will allow you to enable it.
With regard to 'one touch' the fault most likely lies in the contacts inside the switch pack fitted on the drivers door panel. You can disassemble it and clean the contacts, and afterwards it will almost certainly work. The operation of this feature can be checked with VCDS.

The correct code for your radio should be 6447
