FIAT Punto - Refurbished electronic power steering unit - daveylicious

purchased an exchange refurbished power steering unit for my fiat punto in May 2013 which came with a lifetime warranty. Not long after my local garage fitted it started to have problems. Persevered as along as I could then it failed completely. This was within one year from original purchase. Company I purchased from sent a replacement and I had to pay the local garage a second time for fitting. I have sent letter asking for compensation for garage bill, giving them 28 days to reply, but as yet have had nothing back from them. If I take them to the small claims court what chance have I got of being reimbursed for the cost of fitting the unit for a second time?

Slim, I'd say. The lifetime warranty terms would spell out what is covered.

This is the drawback of supplying your own parts for a garage to fit. If the garage had supplied and fitted you may have been OK, but then you would probably have had to pay the garage's mark up on the unit.

From your post I am guessing you bought the column and had a garage fit it for you. If that is the case the garage have every right to charge you providing the fault was not caused by their workmanship.

If the garage supplied and fitted the warranty will be either parts or parts and labour, should be in the fine print.

Don't think you'll get anywhere with this as the warranty is for the unit itself which they have replaced so they have done what they said they would.

Thanks for the response. guess I'll have to swallow the cost of the second fitting.
