Hi Guys,

I'm thinking of getting rid of my golf tdi for something petrol with less to go wrong. I.e no turbo, dmf and dpf.

I've narrowed down my search to the 2 cars in the subject. Does anyone have any experience of these cars? Especially the mondeo, how do you find it with it having a 1.6 petrol engine, what's the mpg like and reliability?

You may wonder why I've selected these 2 but I want something that's reliable, petrol, revvy and good handling with a decent engine. I did consider the focus 1.6 but it seems lacklustre with only 100bhp and the 1.8 version is too thirsty compared to the Civic. If you have any other suggestions feel free to mention them.

Cheers

I hope you enjoy it, for all my moaning it's a really comfy car, great front seats, quiet, good handling and good looking IMO better looking than others in it's class

In addition to the above concerns, I wonder if fitting such a device could void a car manufacturers warranty.

I have seen cars that have had telemetric type devices removed and there has been bare live wires just dangling around behind the dash.

Hi. I would welcome any thoughts on the above. I had both cars before from Approved Used BMWs dealerships. They cost more but were of quality and reliable. I loved the 3-series but found the I-drive on the 5-series fiddly.

I now drive a Honda CRv at the moment. A great allround family car. But we have two in the family so only need one. I can now go back to my BMW.... Read more

My wife has a 2011 MX5 with a retractable hardtop. She's had it from new. This winter, water has somehow got into the boot, saturated the carpets, something that didn't happen last winter, nor with her previous MX5 (softtop) which she had for over 5 years.

So, today we get the Mazda dealer to check it out... not the easiest problem to diagnose, I admit, but this is their answer... you park the car on a sloped drive, that's part of the problem, also this winter has been very wet, that's the other part of the problem. So, we can't do anything, but suggest that you park it the other way round, so the boot is uppermost on the slope. These cars, and I quote, 'aren't designed for slopes and very wet weather'. ... The soft-tops have drains behind the seats which in time can get blocked. I use a curtain wire to push down the drain tube. I assume the MK3 is the same as the older models for this. What the arrangement for the PRHT is I don't know.

I've had this for 2,600 miles now and when it's cold the engine makes i a whirrling/whoosing noise when it accelerates. I notice between 0-30 mph.

With it being brand new I wouldn't expect it to be broken, but I've never had a brand new car before or even a petrol.... Read more

Just bought an 11-month old Alhambra, with 7.5K on the clock, currently on long-life servicing. Diesel 2.0/140 engine.

Should I give it an oil change immediately and move onto fixed servicing intervals, or let it run in for a bit more? We won't be doing many miles over the next few months, as we do the bulk of our mileage in summer. ... Read more

I use the train now and only do 6K per year so changing the oil every 2 years makes sense for me as 10 years use is only 60K miles.

Doesn't work like that. When I bought my new Leon it was available with either fixed or long life servicing. I only do about 8000 miles a year thus long life (approx 20,000 or 2 years) might appear to make sense but VAG clarly state that if you do under 10,000 miles a year its fixed service intervals. On investigation there was no cost saving with long life (with the service plan I bought it would have actually been more expensive) so its annual services for me.

I have decided to buy a 4x4, but which one? I like the look of the freelanders 05 for around 4500, but worried about reliability. Can anyone put my mind at ease? Or suggest an alternative? Read more

Already 3 times I got the EAC code on my dashboard. At that moment my power level doesn't go above 10mph. When I stop the engine and I restart it the problem is fixed.

My dealer did a DTC(diagnostic?) reading of the computer in my engine but he could not recover the code. So he cannot find the cause of the problem.... Read more

This has same engine and electronic throttle system as fitted to Fiesta models.I would get all the connector blocks to the engine checked. Also a low or poor condition battery can give this problem .hth
