I am aware of the recent awareness of true mpg against the consumption figures advertised but I admit to being swayed by them when changing my 2007 Mondeo 1.8 TDCI Titanium X for a 2013 plate 1.6 tdci 115 ss Econetic. My Titanium X would do a steady 52 mpg on the motorway without even trying to get the best results.

I have had this car for 12days now. It was the main dealer's managers car before me, with 7k miles on it. Today I zero'd the on board fuel calculator 0.5 miles before getting on the motorway for a steady 75 mile journey. I was aware all the time of economy as this was a trial. I returned 54 mpg ! About 2 mpg better. My urban suggested should now be 56.5, extra urban 72.4, combined 65.7mpg... Read more

You cannae change the laws of physics! It takes a certain amount of energy to move a cars mass against forces trying to resist that movement. So no huge step change in efficiency is that credible. Curse the E.U!

I have decided to go down the LPG route having been advised that small diesel cars can be troublesome. I assume the amount of miles the car does on petrol etc will be the same in gas, so I would need a high mpg petrol car. Could anyone recommend something like a fiesta, Peugeot ???

Any advice would be appreciated. Read more

My car suffered "chugging" when accelarating between 30 and 40 or going up hill.

Mb of Bath diagnosed the fault as glycol leaking into the transmission from the valeo radiator. This is a common fault which MB are well aware of and did not recall the cars or inform the owners of the potential financial ticking time bomb. MB of Bath did not fix my fault and returned the car to me with gear box issues which were not there when I gave them the car, and in addition on their invoce the told me not to drive the car as that would further damage the car. I am taking MB of Bath to court. I would welcome any comments/advise/experiences. Read more

The total number of properly serviced vehicles with the autogearbox/Valeo problem is extremely small compared with the total cars produced ,when a car such as this has a proper service history and I repeat a proper service history and a fault arises due to faulty workmanship then Daimler will look upon it very kindly. My son has been in business for many years he prefers BMW l prefer Mercedes ,

What is in the service schedule which makes any difference to this fault?...

My rear offside lamp was damaged and had to be replaced (the bit on the main body, not on the tailgate). The stop bulb also was out, so I replaced that too. After fitting the new lamp and stop bulb, the stop lamp is on full brightness even when the brake is not depressed. Nearside works fine: i.e. it brightens when brake is pressed.

Any ideas what I've done wrong? Read more

Sorry it's taken a while to report back. I bought two new bulbs and fitted them and all is well. It's quite possible that I fitted the bulb the wrong way round - didn't know that the orientation mattered. Can't be bothered to pull the unit out again and test it but all is well.

I have a 20 year old Mazda MX5 that doesn't miss a beat. I am concerned that the government is introducing E10 fuel. How will this effect the components in my car? I know I will lose out on MPG. Bikerbill. Read more
