I have a 2006 (56 plate) facelifted Mercedes Benz E280 CDI saloon, which I have owned from new and has done 42000 miles.
I am experiencing a problem with the steering, where it is heavy when I start the car from cold in the morning, and remains at the same weight, however long I drive it for (20 mins, 1 hr, 2 hrs etc), until I stop the car, let it stand for 20 - 30 minutes and then, when I restart it, the steering is a lighter weight. It seems to need the engine to reach normal operating temperature before the switching off, leaving 20 mins and restarting routine will have any effect. If I start the car from cold, let it tick over for a couple of minutes, leave it for 20 mins and then restart it, the steering will be just as heavy as it is when started from cold.... Read more

I cannot use the "D" position to start or at low speed as it will not engage low gears,only high revs.I can use the "1" and "2" positions and then move into "D" and then move down again when slowing or stopping.Reverse gear is fine.
I have been told that it is maybe a forward clutch problem in the gearbox,which would need to be removed/repaired and would be very expensive and may not be cost effective.Any other thoughts on what the problem may be,and could I continue to drive as above without causing and further problems ? Has the transmission fluid been changed? It's the first step on any older autobox that's giving problems as dirty, contaminated or worn ATF can cause many problems so changing it may cure the issue - if it doesn't cure the fault(s) you've eliminated the ATF as an issue - but on a 14-year old Mondeo it may cost more than the car's is worth to go further.

I popped in to my local Dacia dealer to have a look at a Stepway and was informed by the salesman that they make a loss of £150 on every Sandero/Stepway/Logan they sell. When I expressed some scepticism at this he began to backtrack and said well they do get some money back from Renault at the end of they month and every sale goes towards their overall Renault/Dacia sales target. He also couldn't tell me anything about service costs, nor would he give me a trade price on my 11 plate Fiesta. The cars themselves looked more than ok, but this guy was as unhelpful as any I have ever encountered.

What the dealer makes per sale is totally none of my concern. If it is insufficient stop selling them otherwise do your job or I'll find another dealer to sell me a vehicle but it won't be you matey.

I have owned various Fiesta Diesels models for 25 years and driven them over the same route. I recently bought a 6 month old ford fiesta "econetic" 1.6 diesel edge and the fuel economy is frankly appaling. I am now getting under 40 mpg on what is an urban cycle route which is way way below the government figures, the Honest John average (85% of claimed,) and also 20% less than I used to achieve on the same route with all 3 previous fiesta diesels (which all had emission levels over that claimed for this model). It has been in for inspection under warranty twice and as there are no fault codes reported, the dealer and Ford will do nothing about it.... Read more
I am employed as an HGV Driver and the company I work for has a large fleet of mostly MAN, DAF & Mercedes artics , the Mercedes Actros' on the fleet have an economy feature that when driving along on cruise control at the set speed if it overruns the revs drop to 'save' fuel then when they kick back in the engine requires a big gulp of diesel, meanwhile the DAF XFs that do not emoloy this system sre much better on fuel, strange eh?

First thing check the simple things - is the PAS fluid level correct or is it dirty/broken down, and needs changing? You'd hope that the dealer had checked these, but you can at least rule these out yourself.
