I will be changing the oil at the weekend, should i use engine flush or not, getting confliction advice. Read more
Just exchanged our Puegot Estate for the above with Bury St Edmunds branch of Drive Vauxhall.
The information they gave us has proved to be inaccurate in terms of the actual mileage, previous owner? Since they MOT'd the vehicle it has done 7000 miles in six (6) weeks?... Read more
I use to drive well over 1k a week so that is quite feasable, the rest isn't as above take it back and recover your money.
I will be doing alot of motorway driving and looking at drivingup to 20k miles per year. I would like to get a car that is less than 4 years old and less than 60K miles and deliver as high MPG as possible, doesn't need to be exciting to drive, but as spending most of the time in it would like it to be comfy for motorway journeys and fun to drive if possible..
In terms of budget, as low as possible, £7k seems to be the minimum I can find anything for.
So far I have found
Kia Ceed
Ford Focus
Any other recommendations or advice on the spec to go for
Thanks Read more
A Diesel Ceed @ 3/4 years old with 40k miles would make perfect sense, 7 year warranty cut off should nicely coincide with the 100k limit, have your cake and eat it.
Anything else will be out of warranty completely or at best have one year remaining, and you'll be into spare bog roll aftermarket warranties.
Is the use of turbo cleaners a good idea, also which one is the best. Read more
Its amazing how many normally sensible people can be mesmorised by a snake oil salesman to such an extent that they start to believe everything that is put in front of them whether it is true or not.
Having gone round the houses trying to decide which used cars to consider for my long daily commute (130mile round trip) It looks like an Octavia estate will tick the boxes for long term reliability, good fuel economy, good motorway cruising, spacious boot for hauling bikes and watersports equipment at the weekends.
There seems to be a lot of love out there for the 1.9 TDI engine and i read that it will be one of the most dependable options? Does that mean I should avoid the other Octavia engine options available? I did used to own a 1.9 TDI Passat and I must admit that a little extra performance would be nice but I wouldn't be bothered if it's at the expense of relaibility.... Read more
Why on earth would you want to chip a car?
The 1.9tdi is pretty bullit proof although a bit acricultural the early 2.0 had many failings but the later 2.0 is again supposedly a very good engine with all the faults ironed out.....
my 1300cc combo will tick over but will not accelerate stays on 1000rpm Read more
This links to a technical paper about improving durability of turbochargers. Specific applications are for light commercials from 2.3 litre but may eventually be applied to cars.
In the opinion of this Automotive R&D Engineer, these devices are a triumph of marketing over engineering. The above is simply stating the bl33ding obvious.
As an automotive R & D Engineer, why do you think the detailed technical paper referenced is a marketing ploy rather than a valid report on an R & D project?
I have now decided to buy a small car for doing up to 400-500 miles per week. I would need diesel and as low mileage as possible. I had a yaris 02 1.4td which was excellent, but not many low mileage ones about.
I have considered a petrol 1.2 fiesta with LPG conversion fitted, but worried the petrol engine wouldn't last as long as the diesel.
I have also looked at citroen c3 1.4hdi but reports of rust etc on here.
I liked the high seating position of the yaris and wondered if anyone could suggest something similar with all the above considered for a max £3-3500 Read more
A small petrol car would also do fine. Could easily do 50mpg. Lots of small, high cars around, mainly Japanese (or Japanese based).

If the cd player works, then it will not be a radio code issue.Could be an aerial or radio fault.
Have driven for over 25 years without clutch failure. Current car VW Passat 90,000 miles and previous Toyota Corolla 115,000+
Finally in a position to purchase a sports car. However, I see multiple times in adverts that the "clutch has just been replaced". Most recently today in an advert for a 37,000 mile Porsche Cayman.
So two questions
1) Do sports cars all suffer premature clutch failure.
2) What is your longest clutch life...... Any make. Read more
Oh indeed so. My current car, a 2011 Merc E Class estate, is now up to over 80k miles and is only now showing signs of needing its first replacement set of front brake pads for example. It spends most of its time on motorways or country A roads so the brakes don't get hammered .
