Hi
Please hepl, can anybody enlighten me, I picked up a Golf TDi 1.9 2007 last week but on the journey home noticed the heater wasn't working. Took it back the following day for them to put right. They have had the car for 10days now & have finally found that the head gasket has gone. The garage are the process of having the head skimmed & replacing the part. ... Read more
The problem is you do not know what other damage the HG going has caused the garage will be looking for the cheapest solution not the best one. Then agian it could just be a straight forward HG job and everything will be ok, are you a gambling man. At least if you keep the car any related faults the garage should fix them.
For some time have had intermittent fault with TCS lights staying on after engine has started. Now much less intermittent that it was. Diagnosed with fault code C1119.
Does anyone have experience of this? Read more
A lot has been written on here about dealers offering paint protection finishes for, in some cases, considerable extra cost. I was probably conned into getting this done on my last car as the dealer said that some paints are more prone to stone chips and my paint choice was particularly bad for this.
Anyway, I am picking up a new car in march and have been offered the coating for £250. I have declined because so many people on here have said you can do the same job yourself for £50 or so.
My question is, do these coatings really help protect the paint from chips etc? Immediately after picking up the car, I am heading off on holiday in the UK, therefore I will not be able to apply any protection until I return. Should I have any concern that the paintwork is not protected as well as it could be during this time? Read more
Meguairs has given all my cars 100% protection against damage caused by Dodo droppings.
One of the wonders of modern science.
Got a weird one.
Fitted a new bulb into the heated rear window knob, which as you know is a sod to do as it means a strip down of the centre console just the remove the switch which then has to be dismantlement and the bulb replaced, (soldered in) used small 12v Christmas tree bulb as the push in one are too long.
Now everything works BUT when I turn on the heater knob to heat and the AC cut out switch opens the backing lights go out and the ignition (battery logo) comes on on the dash. I think it may be an earth problem but if it is, where?. Read more
Anyone got an English wiring diaram of that area, heater panel, dash lihts? I have in german but very difficult to read.
Hi Be grareful of some advice. I'm trying to remove the old clutch cable from my Nissan Micra 1998. I've diconnected it from the pedal and the clutch fork but there is a mounting bracket which the cable is also connected to which I am unable to remove it from. The bracket has a large "rubber grommet" that is grooved in the centre to fit inside the mount bracket and the cable runs through the centre of the "rubber grommet". But I am unable to remove the cable and "rubber grommet" from the mount bracket. It doesn't seem to be a case of pulling the "rubber grommet" and cable out of the opening in the bracket. I'd be grateful of any advice. Thanks Patrick Read more
I have no experience on that particular cluch cable, but usually with enough lubricant and force they should slide out of the gap in the bracket.
They would not have bothered putting the gap if the grommet then the cable could be fitted separately. Best of luck!
Hi, My trusty Citroen C5 Estate (MY2004) is getting a bit old and weary. I have kept it much longer than expected because it can take very long loads safely on the roof (timber mouldings up to 4.5m long).
I can space roof bars 1.6m apart on the existing rails. Can anybody advise on the estate car with longest possible distance between roof bars plus enough safe overhang to accommodate lengths of 4.5m?... Read more
Thanks very much for your helpful suggestions.

I have just found out I had a credit hire agreement for a hire car I had for 4 months and the at fault insurer is resulting to pay the hire cost so a solicitor is preparing it for court. The solicitorwants copies of my bank statments for the period of the hire. Do I have to provide them?
Thanks in advance... Read more
4 months as the car was written off and I didn't get the payment through. I didn't even know it was a credit hire agreement until I had a letter from the solicitor with a questionnaire. There was never an explanation from anyone, insurance or management company. I just thought it was a hire car they paid for and claimed back.

Hi,
Need a used car at around £5000 and although I was never looking at a Golf my local dealer has offered me a choice of 2. It's the right size for what we need but I had thought about getting a 3-4 year old Citroen C3 Picasso, instead of an 8 year old Golf. The two both have around 80k miles, one is a 2.0 GT TDI, other a 1.9 TDI Sport.
Which one is best?
Is it realistic to expect 5 years and perhaps 75k miles out of it?
This is a second car and will nearly always be used for 20 mile+ journeys on A Roads.
Main concerns are reliability and economy. Coming from a petrol Mondeo that only did 32-33mpg. Read more
The earlier Ceeds, up to about late 09 IIRC, have neither of those two troublesome fittings (this info from a reliable mature owner of said car on another forum), couldn't tell you if later version gained a DMF but they did gain a DPF as has everything else...it must be said however you don't hear of problems with Ceed DPF, or associated problems, when compared to some others which appear to be ticking time bombs.
Ceeds gained a DPF for the 2011 model year as required by Euro 5 regs. Our Ceed was delivered and registered in September 2010 and was the first our dealer had recieved fitted with a DPF. When we ordered in August 2010 he had a 2010 model in the showroom for immediate delivery and that did not have a DPF, unfortunately it was Red and I would never have another Red car....

The warranty is no good to you, the turbo could plod on for ages and they'll find another excuse not to pay out. Do as leaseman says and offer them the chance to repair the acknowledged fault or you will reject the car. Give them 14 days to choose which way they want to go and stick to it.
