I have only one standard key for my daughters SEAT Ibiza Chill 1.4 - 2001 - I am aware of the costs of a new remote locking key fob, key and coding from SEAT (approx £170)

I am aware of the remote fob programming method so I wonder if I could do the following to enable her to at least have remote locking.

Can I get an aftermarket SEAT suitable remote fob then use my standard key in the ignition but as I have no second key to put into the door to go thorough the fob programming sequence simply remove the door handle and opposite the lock with out the barrel for the sequence? Will this work?
Thanks

If you have a standard key with no remote locking, then I doubt if the car is enabled for the remote lock function .hth

Hi, I have a citroen xsara picasso 51 plate and today i've been having a couple of issues. It was fine first thing this morning, but after 20 minutes of driving there was a warning light on the dash saying the drivers door was open. I pulled over and tried opening and shutting the door, but it did nothing, so i put the drivers side window right down and back up again and that seemed to do the trick. But after visiting relatives when i came back to the car the courtesy lights were on, door were all unlocked. Im not using the manufactured central locking, I had a different one installed a few months back as i needed to replace the ecu unit. but locking the doors with my key has also not been an issue (I have only used the ignition key in the drivers side door).

The doors don't seem to be locking and whilst im driving the warning light for the drivers door being open is constant, also with the courtesy lights - I have turnt these off to not drain the battery- ... Read more

The central locking system is seeing a "door open " situation ,so that is why the the dash display is showing and the locking system will not work.Could be a fault with the door latch circuit.

Our clio has been diagnosed with an injector fault.I have been warned that this could indicate the beginnings of total system failure. I have changed the fuel filter and inspected the old one. sure enough, there is a trace of "silver paint" in the bowl of the filter, having split it open. Would this trace amount of metal residue be a sure sign of imminent failure or should I expect a good many more miles out of the pump before I have to replace it along with all the other ( contaminated) components and have the entire tank and pipework either cleaned or replaced?I am really worried about this, especially as the car is beginning to play up in other ways now, such as displaying "flat battery" symptoms when the battery is fully charged and tests out perfectly.I have been alarmed to hear of others with the same problem who have been faced with repair costs of thousands. Surely, these vehicles should not be "write offs" at 100000 miles.Has anyone managed to overcome this without bankrupting themselves or scrapping the vehicle? Sensible suggestions very welcome. Does it have an in tank lift pump? I can't imagine where else metal particles could be coming from in the filter. Pump failure causing this is quite common on PSA vehicles.

The flat battery problem is probably a seperate issue, check the voltage across it with the engine running, should read about 14.4 volts, much less and you have an alternator problem or could be that the battery or starter motor are failing or just the the battery connections are not good.

Hi there, i have just found my e39 523i is guffing out white smoke or steam from the exhaust. i had a look under the bonnet and found that the air intake hose is ripped quite badly. anyone know if this is the likely cause? Read more

Peter.N.

I can't really see how the split in the hose can cause it, just means the air is being drawn in through the split as well as from the filter.

If you are not loosing coolant its unlikely to be the head gasket, could be water laying in the exhaust system if its been left standing for any length of time or you have driven through some deep water....

Living in France I would like to buy a CC in UK and ship it over here, problem is that the headlamp units have to be altered to comply in France.

When I moved here some years ago I brought my 406 with me but had to buy new headlamp units to comply with French norms, at considerable expense.... Read more

I was driving my van with an overload and was stopped by police. Police weighed the vehicle and found that I was above the weight limit by 26%. The police also identified a fault in the brake pedal and their was noise with the steering. I received a letter today and they have said I will be receiving 9 points on my license. 3 points for each of the incidents mentioned before. I feel that 9 points is very steep for one incident and is unfair. are there any legal grounds on which I can defend any of the points on? Thank you for reading. Read more

Hi Agree with comments, overloading of at least 26% is very serious and carries points and a fine. Plus additional points for other faults found by Police. Plead guilty and move on ... but with legal car.

Gibbo_Wirral

ABS faults are common on 307s ten years and older.

The problem is usually down to dirt getting behind the mount point of the sensors - usually the rears - and they push it too far from the hub....
