Hello Backroomers. I have a 1992 Carina E 2.0i petrol vehicle, and I note that when I have the front headlights turned off and press the brake pedal, the front light turns on (to dipped beam). With the lights are turned on, this does not happen. What may be the cause of this fault. In light of the heavy rain, I would consider this may have had an impact.

Thank you for any suggestions or thoughts concerning this problem. Read more

With mine, if everything is turned off, the brake lights come on when the brake pedal is pressed.

My lights don't come on, so I would suggest it's not meant to happen.

I have a Renault Laguna 2004, 1.8 16V engine, 5.40 litres, mileage: 90,000km
The battery was flat, tried to start with another car battery using a lead, I made a mistake in connection which I correct immediately the battery sparks, so I started d car, allow to run then move got to my destnatio, switch off, remove the card, parked for about 5 hours, then by the time I got to the car I insert the card, but the card reader will not read the card, so ignition light did not come on, car refuse to start.
I changed the battery terminals, tried another battery all other lights in d car come up, but is like d car is not reading the card so the car cannot do self check, crank the engine or start the car Read more

Hi,

I own a 2000 Renault Scenic 1.6 16v, when I bought it there was no cover on the engine and water was getting into one of the coils (second from the right, I think), as it rained, water was dripping from the small screw (which I can not remove now as its been rounded?) on the coil, I've read in the Haynes Manual that there should be an O Ring on the coils. Every now and again the engine runs off a cylinder, especially when it rains.... Read more

Do you know if Skoda plan to bring out a 4x4 scout model when the new Fabia comes out at the end of the year. Read more

Not sure yet - there's no info on the new Fabia at the moment so we can only speculate. There could well be a Scout version, but perhaps with front-wheel drive, as with the Scout variant of the current Fabia.

Hi.

I received a Conditional Offer of £100/3 points on 14 Jan 2014. I requested and received photos and then replied that we could not be sure of the driver, but also challenged the ay the reading was obtained. I received an acknowledgement on Fri 7 Feb, stating that my letter was "receiving attention". I have heard nothing since and the 28 days for response expire tomorrow on Feb 12th.... Read more

You may have an attitude problem.
It is unclear quite what you have done.
Your original post is full of holes. You say you have received a COFP but then go on to say "that we could not be sure of the driver,
You do not get a COFP until they have received an S.172 ( NIP) unequivically identifying the driver.
But then you also challenged the way the reading was obtained. How was it obtained exactly and why do you think it is wrong.
I would suggest you address these matters as it could all go pear shaped pretty quickly.
You will jump from a NIP to a summons or even Failure to Furnish which is 6 points and a circa £500 fine andan MS90 on your licence that will hike your premium for the next 5 years.
Suit yourself but you are on this ice. Regards Peter

I've been looking at getting a 1.8TDCI mk2 focus for my 130mile daily round trip to work.

looking to spend around £3-4k which seems to get you something with about 90k on the clock. But for considerably less it seems I could get a mk1 with same sort of mileage. Money is tight at the moment and I'm wondering if there is really any good reason not to go for a mk1 other than it being an older shape and more plasticy interior? ... Read more

In 2001 I drove a rental Mk1 Focus estate TDDi which I thought was surprisingly good. In 2002 I drove a rental Mk1 Focus estate TDCi which I though was even better.

Both drove with verve and with the ability to go many miles each day without discomfort. If you can find a good example, go for it.

Hi all, Having sought help a while back overcoming startup problems I am back again after being stumped by yet another problem.

Helping my neighbour after his vehicle broke with what was initially thought to be ablown head gasket grew somewhat when it turned out to be a cracked head. Obtaining and fitting a replacement head took more that the production line fitting time. It was also pepered with a rash of ever other type of problem not least the weather over these past many weeks. The vehicle initially broke down in July 2013 and has stood ever since. I now believe that although the vehicle was in good order until it broke down when, attempting to re start after fitting the replacement head failed miserably. It was wanting to go but was clearly not getting fuel. Help was sought and eventually after much checking of fuses, supply, and imobilser etc, fuel was eventually delivered to the injectors and the engine now starts and runs well. But alas the spill line is being pressurised fron the pump body connection. The line back to the tank is clear. My guess, and I am clutching at straws, is that the cut off valve was stuck closed and caused the initial lack of fuel and now not fully open is allowing pressure out of the pump body connection which is shared by the spill line from the injectors. Anyone out there got any ideas which would help to sort this one please. The Nissan approach to help in such matters does not fit in the real world, have the vehicle brought in £180, run diagnostics until the fault is traced at £75 per hour.... Read more

Hi to one and all,

At long last all the issues are resolved and the vehicle is ready to be taken for its MOT and then back into service. Apart from the initial issue of the cracked cylinder head all the other side line problems related purely to the time the vehicle had stood out of action. The flow down the return line to the tank is within spec and the leaky spill connections were just a matter of getting correctly sized tubing. Alls well that ends well, but many thanks to all who contributed.
