Later this year I turn 50, although I still feel like a 25 year old and my family and friends say I act like an immature 25 year old at that!

I fancy buying a motoring treat - nothing too expensive, but say at least 25 years old, for less than £10,000; with style, panache (possibly a soft top) and doesn't have to be too quick either.... Read more

When towing a caravan after about an hour the revs shoot up to 3500 and the gearbox shifts down to 2nd gear. If i pull over and restart the car the problem clears for a while. Kia have not been able to help. I have read on the reviews that autos need an additional oil cooler when towing, can this be fitted along with the original or can a larger cooler be fitted? It is quite possible that the batteries may have been stored away discharged and then left to long before charging, that is the normal problem with deep cycle batteries, if they are not being used they must be charged every four or five weeks or they will get to a state that is not recoverable from

The easiest thing is just to use your car charger and charge them seperatly, then use a meter to check the voltage on each battery, they should be about 13.5volt each, if less than 12 volts after a full charge they will be shot...

I have taken delivery of my new Golf MK VII 1.4 TSI. I was surprised to see that the oil level was only half way between min and max on the dipstick. I want to get a spare litre of oil for top up purposes and the manual says I should use VW 502 oil. I just happen to have a litre of Esso Ultra 10W-40 Semi Synthetic unopened but has an expiry date of 04/2009. Would it be safe to use this or should I get some new VW 502. I know HJ says not to use Fully Synthetic in a new car but I have no idea what VW 502 is. Any thoughts please. Read more

If you have don't plan to maintain/service the car correctly you may as well send it back and get an old banger, then you can save yourself the £15 the oil costs without worry!

Note to self don't buy a used car from him, really!...

If any of you guys out there have an LGV or PCV licence it may be worth giving this company a call. They are based in Belfast and specialise in Car Insurance for holders of the aforementioned licences. I renewed my car insurance on November last year and for an at the time 11 month old Kia Sportage 2.0 CRDi KX3 it cost me £159.10, yes thats right £159.10. That was with £100 excess and myself and my wife on the policy and includes legal protection, no claims protection, foreign cover and key cover. A very good deal. I changed my car last week for a more powerful Ford Mondeo and it cost me only £26.50 of which £16.50 was their standard admin fee. None of us like to pay admin fees but their £16.50 is a lot fairer than the £55 my wifes last insurers were looking for. Give them a call, my experiences of them has been first class whether it be their prices or their very polite and pleasant staff of which nothing ever seems to be a problem. I also got a great deal on my home insurance from them.

IMO it's necessary to shop around EVERY year, it's the only way to tell if a renewal quote is taking the p**s or not.

I've been with Adelaide for 6+years now, as an IAM member, and very pleased with them - although twice I had to get them to price-match as their initial offer was silly high.

I've looked at three Auris hybrids at two different dealerships over the past few days and noticed that all three of them had mould on both the front and rear seatbelts. Does anyone know whether this is a common issue with this particular make and model?

Also, any thoughts what's causing the issue? Could it be from the car standing at the forecourt for a few weeks or does it indicate a more difficult to eradicate problem with water leaking in? Just to say that there were some signs of condensation inside the car visible near the back window seals.... Read more

If so they had undoubtedly been valeted, the valeter probably used a damp or wet fluid to clean the interior.

If a dealer has the spare time to valet cars before anyone signs up to buy, it may be an idea to look elsewhere. In my (limited) experience traders clean up the inside after a punter signs on the dotted. You'd probably have to do it all again otherwise. Outside is different of course.

Does anyone else find the advert in the legal section of the backroom (company is called www.drinkdrivingsolicitor.co.uk/) offensive?

Personally I feel that if someone gets caught for drink driving they should accept the penality that goes with their stupidity.... Read more

Hi

Does anybody have any knowledge of the 2.0 SDi (suction diesel injection) engine that was used in the Golf V up to around 2008? My question is - does this engine suffer from the same oil pump balancer shaft problem that some of the 2 TDi PD engines suffered? I believe the engine code for the 2.0 SDi was (BDK). Or was this engine just as bullet proof as the 1.9 SDi that went before it? Read more

Thank you so I assume this will be a reliable engine then.
