After a week of inactivity, my A4 has manged to flatten its battery and is refusing to start. As the drive is on a slope and I'm unable to get a 2nd car alongside, is it OK to charge the battery in situ?

I am refering to the modern almost weightless chargers with a swtch mode power supply and LEDs, many of them don't work from new.
I wouldn't rate a Gunsons charger as being modern.

Those fabulous German engineers even defy science managing to make oil and water mix.
Thia fault was very common with CLKs and has been known about for years - I would be very surprised if it's not mentioned in HJ's car-by-car guide....

Most likey your wiper is hiting the edge of the windscreen. Wiper arm needs adjusting.

It seems that Renault Twingo 1.2 , are starting to have failures on their clutch pedal link rods where the rod socket is wearing and becoming detached from the connecting ball link. Seems to be starting on 2008/2009 year models.
Theres no recall on this fault! but Renault commented they have repaired a number of cars with this problem.... Read more
I'm not really surprised that there is no recall, you are talking about a non critical failure on a 5/6 year old car and a Renault at that. I would say that it is par for the course. Just think if it was a Laguna or a Megane, the electric window motors/cables would have packed up by this point too. You get what you pay for...

I'd suspect coking up first. Run it on Shell V Power for at least five tanks.
Try cataclean too....
