Toyota have announced that manufacturing will end in Australia by 2017 - this follows GM's announcement that Holden will cease manufacturing by 2016 and Fords earlier decision to end manufacturing there.

I am refering to the printed version, the on line version tends to be a few days out of date
evening, my brother in laws 53 plate golf tdi arl engine died on him last night and won't restart. he said it just cut out and wouldn't go again. ive had it on vagcom and no fault codes are showing, the car will fire and run briefly if i spray carb cleaner down the air intake. you can hear the lift pump prime when you turn the ignition on and i can draw fuel all the way round the system to the thermo switch at the fuel filter using a hand vacuum pump im now at a loss as to what to check next.
ive removed the rocker cover, the camshaft looks in good condition, i was hoping to be able to examine the output from the cam mounted tandem pump but this doesn't seem possible, is there a way to test the tandem pump? i doubt all 4 injectors have gone together and if one had i would expect a fault code and some running issues but the car was running fine, is there anyway to test the lift pump aswell apart from listening for it priming?... Turns out it was out of fuel, ive found how to recalibrate the fuel gauge with vagcom so will do so at the weekend. Also found the egr and inlet manifold are caked in sludge so will remove and clean them too

Get it booked into a garage for a plug in of their diagnostic equipment first and make sure you have a print out of the error code AND definition of that code.
Trying to guess what has brought the light on without this is pure speculation. As a/c doc said, it could be anything so you need to get the error memory read first.
It is supposed to be an easy way to disable the keypad by unplugging the cable.

I understood it is enough to remove only the actual panel where you tap the code in order to reach the wiring plug.
If you have to remove the whole center console, then it is a considerable bigger job to do....

Indeed there is much weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth over here just now, it is bad news for manufacturing in Victoria. However the fact remains that locally manufactured cars have failed to reflect the changing market either locally or for export. Add to that high labour costs, high taxes and free trade and the prospects aren't rosy.
The cars: Ford Falcon, Holden Commodore aren't bad, they just miss the market zeitgeist, people want SUVs. The Falcon has been offered with the (relatively) economical 4Cyl 2.0L 200PS Ecoboost engine but is a sales flop in this guise, the 4.0L 6Cyl being the preference for those who still buy them. Similarly the smallest Commodore engine is a 3.0L V6, no diesel options for either. IIRC Holden don't even bother to tell you the CO2/mpg figures in their brochures... At least the Camry comes as a hybrid....
