I have a 2339 cylinder 4 knock code with engine light on and flashing coil light. Car will start fine 10 seconds then starts coughing blue/white smoke diesel smell and will struggle to run unless I drive away and warm it up then runs ok, could it be air/temperature related? have had injectors tested, changed filters, cleaned EGR. I have an F-super 2 diagnostic but it doesn't recognise my ECU, I have tracked the unit and it is a standard Ford unit although seems to be 2002 spec, I have a feeling these late 2004 models were a collection of old bits before they changed engines the following year.Have looked at some of the sensors but nothing obvious. Can't get rid of the coil light no matter what, even using a Snaptool scanner. Any ideas?

Aston Martin is recalling over 17,000 cars, equivalent to three out of four vehicles the British luxury car maker has made in the past six years, because of a potentially defective part made by one of its Chinese suppliers.

All Bentleys are built in the UK - for a short while, 2005-6, the Continental Flying Spur was assembled in Dresden but moved to Crewe when production facilities had been expanded - the other Continental models were all built at Crewe along with the Arnage and Mulsanne models....

Wiring problem in the tailgate?

My front right wheel hit the kerb as I was pulling away one morning.
Now the steering doesn't feel right. There seems to be more play in it.

If I release my hand pressure on the wheel, the wheel starts twitching about. Also feels like it wants to drift off line, and there is more vibration through the steering wheel.

There are no noises from the steering when turning, so it's not wheel bearings or anything like that.

Is it just a matter of getting the tracking/wheel alignment fixed? I guess Kwik-Fit or similar would do this? Read more

Agree with BT, you need a mechanic to look at this, not a tyre fitter.

If the wheel isn't damaged then something more expensive took the blow.

Hi after a bit of info/advice.

The wife is currently driving a 2004 (MK V I think) 1.9 tdi and for more space is thinking of moving to either a Passat or Jetta. Not looking one with loads of miles and probably between 2007 & 2010 as anything later would prob be too expensive.

Just wondering if anyone can give advice on what we should be watching out for when looking at cars and maybe pros and cons and if low mileage even makes much of a difference - I actually bought my 2000 passat with 121k on it and have just past 222k.

Size wise is there much of a difference between the two?

Thanks in advance for any advice that can be given, much appreciated. Read more

From my expereince the CR engines are more modern and smother but not as relibale and robust as the older PD engines. My 2001 Audi A4 1.9 100 BHP is 242k and still running sweet.......trick is to service regularly oil changes every 8k using 504/507 oil.

Did you see a question in the motoring section on Saturday (1/2/14) about how people don't seem to use roundabouts properly any more? I wrote it. But I kept my real opinion to myself. The fact is, people from all over the EU and beyond have brought their driving habits with them, and the natives are copying them. Road manners where I live have become terrible. If you are on a roundabout, people entering from your left very often don't wait their turn, they just drive on. This might bother you or it might not. But the fact is, it's the result of our enrichment and diversity, which we celebrate on a daily basis. Read more

You and I live within 25 miles of each other but I don't recognise the place described.

You misunderstand me Bromp.

The drastic reduction in driving competence coincides with the country being swamped with people (and the disappearance of real coppers), native Brits are just as bad as any of the foreigners though the driving faults could well be different....

In the last two weeks the tail gate glass on my 07 X type estate has started opening when I start the car. It does not happen if I only unlock the drivers door but does if I unlock all doors, if I lock the doors manualy before switching on it doesd not happen. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks.... Read more

A very common problem on X types and if you go to the Jag owners forum there is detail on how to fix it. You can replace the switch, or other owners have replaced the resistor for one which needs a higher current to activate the switch.
