Aston Martin - Dud bits - oldroverboy.

Aston Martin is recalling over 17,000 cars, equivalent to three out of four vehicles the British luxury car maker has made in the past six years, because of a potentially defective part made by one of its Chinese suppliers.

So, the VERY expensive and exclusive make is using cheapo chinese bits to build there cars. Nothing new there then.

they could at least have bought uk sourced dud bits to continue a long tradition in the uk motor trade. Fibre glass wings too, being eaten by pets? At least Rolls and bentley are still making proper cars,, Aren't they?

"a potentially defective part" - have there been any actual component failures?

If you're worried about Chinese quality in general - then don't fly, use computers or phones !

Maybe, but they're not British.

The Rolls-Royce name is still owned by Rolls-Royce PLC, the aero engine manufacturer, from whom BMW obtained a licence to use it on a new range of super-luxury cars designed and built in Britain.

The VW Audi group owns Bentley, and the factory in Crewe where they're made.

There's only Morgan left of the British-owned car manufacturers.

Aston Martin - Dud bits - madf

Morgan uses a BMW engine

Morgan have always used someone else's engine - JAP, Ford, Rover etc.

But they are British-owned.

And nobody spotted the "tradition of using british sourced dud bits!"

Nothing is made wholly from 1 country anymore, don't all our ECU,s come from Thailand?

All Bentleys are built in the UK - for a short while, 2005-6, the Continental Flying Spur was assembled in Dresden but moved to Crewe when production facilities had been expanded - the other Continental models were all built at Crewe along with the Arnage and Mulsanne models.

Rolls-Royce are built in the UK, in Derby then Crewe until 2003.

BMW licence the Rolls-Royce trademarks from the aerospace company Rolls-Royce plc and build cars at Goodwood.

Built? 'Assembled', I think. We might still do the wooden and animal skin stuff but the clever reliable bits that make them go [turboed W12 and 6HP26] are built in Dresden and Saarbrucken.

It's a bit sad at Le Mans these days - barring crashes the Audis purr effortlessly round to win while the Astons tend to scream themselves to failure after a few hours.......
