Nearside footwells wet, front worse than rear.BMW diagnosed problem as door membranes but has not made any difference. I suspect blocked drain from passenger ventilation intake as reported on older models but they say this cannot happen on E90? Read more

During late December and most of January I spent some time in Oz and NZ. During my visit I hired a car in NSW - Toyota Corolla (Auris). This car was from Bayswater Car Hire on William Street, Sydney. I have used them 3 times in the last 10 years - highly recommended!

  • 1.8L Dual VVT-i engine
  • 6-Speed Manual or 7-Speed Multi-drive transmission

. During the 3000km driven in 9 days (average 40mpg) I found the standard of driving was better than here. My driving was in Sydney, towns and more rural parts. All apart from about 3km, was on sealed roads. Generally, most sealed road surfaces were as good as here, however, some main roads had permanent signs warning of a rough surface for 'x' km.... Forgot to mention traffic lights go straight from red to green. So much better than our system.

Also, there are hardly any vans or HGV cluttering up roads.

I've recently started a new job with a long commute (130 miles daily). I've decided to replace my existing 1999 petrol A4 as it's way too un-economical for the mileage I'm doing.

Having looked at the options available within my budget, I'm pretty settled on looking for an 05/06 Diesel Focus. Now I'm just stuck on which engine to go for.... Read more

I didn't realise that not all the 1.6 focus' would have a DPF. How would I know what to look for to find one which doesnt have it?

All 110 PS models registered after 01 January 2006 will have a DPF. Ours was a 2005 car and they only fitted DPF's from the middle of that year....

The press have been suggesting that covert speed cameras are to be introduced on motorways to enforce the 70 mph limit. This seems an easy way for our cash strapped Government to make even more cash out of motorists. The effects I imagine once everyone knew about such cameras would be a procession of cars, vans, motorbikes etc moving like an army of ants. Anyone have any reliable knowledge of this? Read more

driving home through South Wales, saw the signs warning of speed cameras - but only saw these black drums, facing the road, about a foot wide, with a single laser-like green light on them. Are they speed cameras? Am I paranoid?

I purchased a new Lexus Rx450H in March 2013 and in August noticed a problem with the SatNav. As I was driving the satnav cursor began to diverge from my actual position in random directions by upto 400 metres, it did not follow other roads but just tracked aimlessly away from the vehicles actual position. When in guidance mode directions were not given from the actual location but from the cursor was located. does anyone else experience this problem? Lexus UK are baffled and do not have a fix. Hi! I've fixed up a write off Ford Fiesta and am missing music! I don't have the radio code (M055592) if anyone could help with this please. But also when I start the ignition the radio shows P871 0BA. Any ideas? It flashes now and again, have tried fiddling with it and sometimes the 'CODE ----' comes up, haven't got further than that because I don't have the code, but not sure if I need to do something to fix the other issue first.

Any thoughts are appreciated! Thanks Read more

It was more interesting when it was about cars.

Personally I wouldn't buy a C-class whatever size of fuel tank it had, but it's difficult to see why anyone would specify the smaller size. If you have lots of stuff to carry around and need the room, but don't do long journeys, buy a van.

I have been advised by an independent tyre retailer that that rear tyres on my 2010 Golf need replacing due to cracking on the shoulders, despite having more that 4 mm of tread. How long should tyres last before they need replacing, assuming that they still have legal tread depth? The tyres are Continentals.

Even in the UK, 3mm is the recommended minimum because wet grip tails off very quickly below that.

There are moves to get the EU minimum increased from 1.6mm to 3.0mm but getting widespread agreement across the EU is a bureaucratic nightmare.

I maintain my own cars and have a decent compressor SIP T3 10 bar and 150litre and the impact wrench i have for wheelnut removal doesnt undo tight wheelnuts. The wrench is an unknown brand and torque i assume it is cheap as it looks and is low toque. of course only tightening wheelnuts with a torque wrench but as tyre fitters never seem to struggle, I wonder if anyone can say if a decent impact wrench, say a Sealey/Ingersoll/Bluepoint with a 450lb torque will do the job to remove stubborn wheelnuts or maybe 600lb ultimate torque?

My airline is 1/4" maybe up the bore to 3/8" too but assume that needs new couplings... Read more

great advice thanks alot. Im using an impact 19mm socket but a short extension, as proper long reach sockets are about a fiver will get one of those just to be sure. Will take bung to plumbers merchants to match it up so get up the flow, i think hose is 3/8" but prefer to take off from the tank

Why do the designers think it is a good idea to put the spare on the rear door, presumably meaning it has to be hinged. No use for proper outdoor use which it is alleged to be designed for. Same problem with the new ford...good size for two but practicality compromised..Honda seemed to have clocked this with there CRV recently making it more attractive as a useable outdoor car.
