Hi, I am interested to see if anyone has had the same of similar Experience as me on the latest (2009/10 onwards) VW POLO 1.2 S A/C, 3 Cylinder, Petrol 60ps.
In short the timing chain had stretched which has put the timing out
I have a 2010 Polo with 85,000miles on the clock. I had the traction control light appear along with the engine management light and a massive reduction in power with a deeper muffled sound to the engine. The RAC was called and the guy said it was the camshaft sensor (one at the top of the engine) that had gone and advised me not to drive until the car had a new sensor when I purchased and installed the same day. I then asked a family member to reset the computer to clear the fault. This didn't solve the problem but he also said as well as the cam sensor it's showing absolute manifold pressure which makes sense to assume a timing issue.
Long story short the timing chain which shouldn't have to be touched for the life of the car had stretched and and tentioner pistons at their maximum level.
VW Dealer managed to sheer the bolts between catalytic converter and the exhaust manifold as the engine has to be partially removed. We have sense spoken the very helpful mechanic who has been working on the car and he said the bolts looked fine so he carried on the normal way and sprayed (I forget the name) but some anti rust stuff on the bolts and undone as normal when they suddenly sheered. (If you get a new catalytic converter for your Polo be careful, maybe heat the bolts instead even if they look good.)
My car has spent most of it's life on high speed roads/motorways with the rest in stop start traffic South London.

I've read all about the dreaded timing chain failure on 320d/520d BMWs with N47 engines manufactured between 2007 and 2011. I wanted to know if models after March 2011 (when they supposedly changed the engine) have fixed this problem?
Also on this model, is the timing chain still at the back of the engine or the front?... Read more
I'll give my verdict on these BMW timing chains, but first ...
...my background (to hopefully show that what I'm saying has something to back it up) : I used to work for a major oil and fuels company, in oil development and testing (on the Wirral) My current job is more in the oil extraction side of things, still testing, but a very different field....
I've just taken delivery of a newish Ford, and was surprised by the lack of a petrol locking cap.
The fuel flap can be opened without a key or inside cab release leaver, albeit there appears to be a strong spring door that will only allow the right fuel nozzle in. ... Read more
>I think that the flap should lock with the central locking and that yours is faulty. It just doesn't sound right that it cant be locked
There appears to be two schools of thought regarding the non-ability to lock the fule flap....
I accidently scraped/scrathed a car when i was trying to reverse into a tight spot. When I made contact with the car I stopped and went to find a nother parking spot as I did not want to attempt it again. I only made light contact and when I had a look at my car there was only a small scrath with some paint that came off. My car is a silver golf and the car I touched was a black audi. My car didnt have any black paint on it so I dont think any paint came of the audi, only from my car. I went to have a look at the audi, it didnt seem so bad there was a small scratch with some of my silver paint. I didnt examine it properly though so there could be a deep scratch under the silver paint.
This is the first time I did anything like this, so I'm not sure whats going to happen. I didnt have a pen and paper on hand so I didnt leave a note. I did leave my details twice, first time i left them at the customer service desk at the shopping center and second time I called them on the phone. Does anybody know what is likely to happen, Im a bit worried. ... Read more

Cynical, moi?
The alarm system on my 08 Mazda6 2.0ts hatchback has started to go off on apparently random occasions. It is parked in an official parking bay but is not within convenient visual or audible range of my flat. A neighbour, who can see (and hear) the alarm from his accommodation, tells me that it goes off sometimes 5 or 6 times consecutively for about 10 seconds each time and then apparently remains silent. I am quite confident that the alarm is not being activated by attempts to enter it. Anybody got any ideas, please? Read more
I too have suffered with this issue. I use a small rucksack to carry stuff around and the alarm would go off any time I locked the car with the bag left on the passenger seat, or even bizarrely sometimes when it was left in the footwell.
I'm aware that there are sensors in the seat which detect if someone is sitting in the car, which are used for the airbag system and for the seat belt alarm. I wonder if leaving something moderately heavy on the seat makes the car think that someone is sitting inside the car while it is locked and somehow triggers the alarm. Anyway, I now leave the bag on the floor behind the front seats and my alarm now doesn't go randomly go off.
Hi there, got a replacement battery and now need a radio code.

Well, I can confirm that the correct Keycode for Serial Number V078249 is indeed
5981Assuming that you haven't already used-up all the available attempts to enter the correct keycode you just need to enter the code into your radio! Don't forget that you need to Press #Button 5 once after entering the code to actually enter it into the radio....
Hi, I hope this isn't too dumb a question, but is it OK to top up the adblue on our Alhambra myself or will that invalidate the warranty?
It's a 2012 plate so we've still got a year left on the SEAT warranty, but unless I'm missing something it appears to be just a case of putting the AdBlue in the reservoir which I think is the one that is accessed within the rear panel over the nearside wheel. I've just had the warning that it needs doing within 1500 miles, so iI guess there's not a great rush, but I didn't want to go straight to the dealer with it as I suspect the answer would be "pay us a lot of money to tip fluid A into receptacle B" ... Good Evening all,
I hope somebody can give a bit of advice. We've had our Meriva 04 for just over a year. At the first MOT everything started to go wrong. Gaitors needed replacing so failed MOT. We took the car to a lovely recommend local garage and they replaced the gaitors and passed the MOT. So 120 later we had our car back! Until Thursday when the dreaded F appeared on the dash. Car was towed to nice garage and this morning they got back to us to let us know what was going on. I'm going to have to ask you to bare with me because I'm totally stupid when it comes to cars but as far as I know the actuator needs replacing but he also mentioned something about the boards which was going to cost 2000-2500. We bought the car for 2950 last year and will be paying off until next sept so as you can imagine this wasn't great news. Then I remembered that during my googling about the dreaded F I had seen something about ecu solutions that fix the existing actuator. Made my husband call back and the mechanic said that it could be an answer and would obviously be cheaper. ... Read more
It seems your mechanic wasn't aware that control units can be repaired, with the greatest of respect to your mechanic ECU repair/overhaul workshops have been going for many years now, so i'd be wanting a second opinion on the fault before doing anything.
I suggest you spend several hours online searching Vx owners and any other forums for similar problems, someone somewhere will have been through this, and hopefully their experience will point you to a solution or points of call....

Is this a hypothetical question, or are we witnessing one of the very rare Toyota hybrid failures...if so the daily and motoring rags should be informed, bring on some meaningful balanced reporting..;)
