It's not clear how old this car is. You say it is otherwise in good condition, so you have to decide how likely you are to find a better one similar, allowing for its price and the cost of fixing anything. As has been often said, owners usually sell their cars for a reason - in this case possibly a gearbox fault.

A 3 year old car that needs recharging is not acceptable,whether the ac is used or not.I would guess you have a problem.get it checked under warranty.

If the system is in good order,then the gas could last indefinitely.I have a 15 year old Honda accord that has been owned since 2001,and the ac has not been touched and still works well.If the system goes down within 18 months,then there is a leak ,however finding it will need some investigation.Usually condenser or a pipe are favourites.

Hope you can help me here. Living in Greece with my '97 cabrio , great except under the bakng sun. The top stopped working the other day and my guess is low fluid in the Hydraulics. Neither Fiat Greece or punto Forums can help me. Anyone got an idea as to what fluid it is? I've run across A T F- Brake fluid and Power Steering. Obviously want to get it right first time to top up with out problems.... Read more
The majority of car makers use the same hydraulic pump system for the hood.so you could go to a Renault or Vw dealer for the fluid.The fluid is the same as what is used in hydraulic jacks .
