hi...I have had a 1997 ford explorer for about a year and a half and no real problems to report...but right now I am looking to find two track rod ends and rear brake pads so it can pass its M.O.T, I was informed that the track rod ends can only be obtained from Ford themselves,if thats the case its goodbye explorer !! which would be a shame as apart from its heavy fuel consumption its been a reliable work horse especialy in the winter as I live in the highlands of scotland...does anyone who owns an explorer advise me where I can obtain pats etc.... HERE! I've gone off the idea of an X-trail now. I fancy a Cherokee. Not as insanely big as the Grand but still hefty and a bit different. Does anyone know of a decent dealer or specialist anywhere in or near the north west? I'm getting a bit tired of the extravagant claims dealers make on Autotrader!

Anyone have a comment on real world fuel costs for the petrol versions? And things to watch out for, ie, big jobs that might be coming up if someone is getting rid of one.... Read more

We ran the 2.4 petrol for a number of years. It was my wifes and she loved it.
Never had any problem with it and fuel was about average for the size and weight- about 30mpg. I would certainly recommend one as long as it has a full service history and been well looked after.

Tax the car at a Post Office, where you will be issued with the tax disc (starting from 1st July) straightaway. End of problem.

First post so apologies if this is a daft question...

We recently bought our well used & reliable mondeo as salvage from insurers; they did not think it worth repairing however we're reluctant to let it go so doing our best to put it back in working order. When we go it back from the garage the bumper had been removed and there was nothing bolted on to the metal of the car (if that makes sense), the bumper had been left in the boot but nothing else - what I am trying to understand is what sits between the bumper and the body of the car? Having trawled Google I think there is only a reinforcer / Cross member but wanted to double check before I start ordering parts. ... Read more

Thanks to everyone for their responses - have a feeling I am overcomplicating this - or just worrying about it a bit too much. Have found the bit I think is missing on ebay

Hi,

Bit of advice please, I had the air con on the other day, when all of a sudden there was a noise like gas escaping, a funny smell and the air con now only blows hot.... Read more

From your description of a noise and smell, I'd put my money on a leaking evaporator.

I've replaced one of these in an Eos...... Not a job I'd like to repeat I'll tell you....

My 2014 Mazda3 developed an irritating rattle after 3000miles when going over manholes or badly filled potholes. Speedhumps didnt cause the noise - only when the front offside encountered a slight dip in the road. I thought the sound was from the Door Sill or at the seat adjuster and may have been plastic hitting metal. I found similar stories on the US Mazda3revolution.com forum so booked car in -mentioning the TSB for good measure .

The dealer also found the Mazda TSB (Subject Rattle noise from Bottom of A Pillar Bulletin 09-001/14) which states a clearance is needed between the wiper bracket and the cowl.dash panel. The service manager was surprised that a gap of 0.5-1mm was all that was required. My 3 was probably one of the first on UK roads (1st week Jan 2014) so 14plate ones may be ok. ... Read more

I've just bought a Kangoo as a stopgap runabout and although it drives fine at speed it is very lumpy on idle. It doesn't smoke but feels like the engine is trying to jump out of the car when at it's worst. I think it's probably seen off an engine mount or two because of this as well but does anyone know what would cause it? Does it sound like injector (s)?

Hi all,
Long time reader, first time poster. Just wanted to get some opinions on a used honda accord 7th gen face lift. It's done 112k miles, and got full honda service history. It's had the clutch done I think around 60k, and is in good condition. Drives well, clutch fine, but needed a slight dip of the accelerator to start it, tho it could just need new battery. Checked for the common problems on the model like the exhaust manifold was ok, but not been replaced either. Timing chain sounded ok - maybe slight rattle when first started. VCA light came on and off and the button operated it ok. The other thing I raised an eyebrow at was that the honda garage used semi synthetic oil. For 3k I thought it was keenly priced but should I be wary? Accord is reliable, but worried that potential problems that have not been dealt with will definitely be an issue in the future.
Many thanks Read more
