Jeep Cherokee - Better places than autotrader up to £4k - bananastand

HERE! I've gone off the idea of an X-trail now. I fancy a Cherokee. Not as insanely big as the Grand but still hefty and a bit different. Does anyone know of a decent dealer or specialist anywhere in or near the north west? I'm getting a bit tired of the extravagant claims dealers make on Autotrader!

Anyone have a comment on real world fuel costs for the petrol versions? And things to watch out for, ie, big jobs that might be coming up if someone is getting rid of one.

Thanks chaps.

sorry for being a bore. Zero replies tells me I should try harder! Actually the cars for sale on honestjohn look more promising than aut***adier. Okay must press on.

You're as far as its possible to get from being a bore Bananstand, however my replies to this will possibly be too predictable and indeed will be boring.

I like American cars a lot, i'd love to have an 09 on CTS or a current model Charger, but obviously with proper V8's burbling away under the bonnet as befitting the type.

And therien lies the problem, these cars are designed for a nation who's government doesn't overtax their fuel and their country isn't being deliberately overpopulated, so their standard cars are gas guzzlers and large as are their roads, land and parking places, plus they are cheap as chips new in their homeland, so basically throwaway and parts plentiful and cheap, none of which applies here.

But the real problem is the poor reliability you will no doubt face, especially as the budget in question may well lead to an already poorly maintained one.

Only my humble opinion of course, and you might pick up a rock solid example that goes on for years without a murmer, one of my mates has one, a Diesel, and it goes like stink, he overmaintains it himself so its reliable enough and should last.

Should it need main dealer only parts the prices will be eye watering.

Shortage of replies possibly because we haven't got any Jeep drivers among us.

I confess I've never tried - nor wanted - a Cherokee - but I would have thought that one of the Japanese comprtitors, including the X-trail, would do the same job more reliably.

I know a bloke who had one. So heavy on fuel, the electrics were forever going wrong. I like the style but unless you are a mechanic come auto electrician it would seem wise to loolk elsewhere.

We ran the 2.4 petrol for a number of years. It was my wifes and she loved it.
Never had any problem with it and fuel was about average for the size and weight- about 30mpg. I would certainly recommend one as long as it has a full service history and been well looked after.
