Drove car and parked up overnight. next morning opened car, radio works and lights etc but when key inserted and I try to start engine all I get is an audible warning and 'Enginge Malfunction' alert on the dash; engine does not turn over or even try to, dead.

I have the stop start function on my Ka, although I nearly always turn it off, but if I do leave it on it isn't working. I was wondering if it might be because I hardly use it or what other causes it might be. I'm not really bothered as I think it is a nuisance anyway but just curious if anyone else has had any problems with it. Thanks. Read more
Hi, I too have experienced this problem for some time and discovered the solution/fix to be two things: I paid for a new Enhanced Flooded Battery (before seeing Rebecca's post here) which didn't solve the issue - unlike Rebecca. For me, I needed a replacement Battery Monitoring System. The fault was also down to my driving style! As I approached a stop I would slip the gear into neutral and coast the car to a stop; - this was causing the "start-stop unavailable" message to appear on the dash. As you slow down to stop, you must keep your foot on the clutch and stop the car in gear, then put it into neutral once your stationery. My local Ford dealer only figured this out because a technician and I went out on a road test together - start-stop worked for him but not for me. Ford and I tested both the old and new Battery Monitoring System with this correct driving-style to determine whether I was purely the problem, but the original part was also found to be at fault.
My car has been working every time since the part and my habits were changed in May 2018. I hope this works for you....
Hi I have a Citroen c4 56 plate 77k miles on the clock. I had a blown head gasket as my oil was leaking into the coolant. Had this repaired at the garage and they also changed the cam belt. 2 days later, covering only 50 miles on short distances the car started cutting out when the engine got hot and was low revs (at traffic light for example). Took it back in and they said it was the crankshaft sensor which they replaced. Drove away and straight away another warning light STOP oil pressure too low, this goes away once revs are put on but immediately comes back after stopping. All this within one week and barely even drove after getting the head gasket replaced. It was sold with having a 12 month warranty but obviously only relating to the gasket. My question is do you think this is because of the repair, perhaps not done properly. It was supposed to have proper pressure tests but obviously have not seen these. Any help is much appreciated, many thanks. Read more
when the camshaft boxes were assembled, they were over tightened causing wear thus loosing oil pressure, its a very common problem. The tightening torque is 1kg. New cam shaft assemblies are needed to fix the problem.
I've just bought a Golf from my friend and I'm not sure of the exact model to tell my insurers. I've tried to check using the licence plate and it comes up as a Golf E SDi, but on the engine there is a TDi badge. I've also tried to check the VIN no but that is inconclusive too. Read more
Have a look at the V5 and check the engine number, the first three letters will give the VW engine type, then check it here..
Hi guys looking for a bit of help with my citroen relay 2.2hdi 2007 van it seems to cut out when doing city driving but will fire up straight away . My son has a leak on the pipe joint between the heater matrix and the pipe that comes through the bulkhead from the engine. The engine coolant drips into the driver's foot well.

Hi was wondering if you happen to know the part number for the O ring and clips?
We have recently put our car in for its MOT and the rear brake pads need replacing but the garage said the rear calipers would not wind back seemingly, but we have had no problems with the rear brakes sticking or not working and the electronic parking brake is working perfect and holds the car even on a steep gradient.
I am considering having a go at replacing the rear pads myslelf but have never done any work on a car with the electronic parking brake before and wondering what tools I will need and also how to stop the parking brake applying etc to allow me to change the pads.... Read more
Hi all,
I had seen from lots of sources that you can service calipers with the EPB (Electronic Parking Brake) without fancy tools. So I tried it out at the weekend and it is true. ...

I am aware of the recent awareness of true mpg against the consumption figures advertised but I admit to being swayed by them when changing my 2007 Mondeo 1.8 TDCI Titanium X for a 2013 plate 1.6 tdci 115 ss Econetic. My Titanium X would do a steady 52 mpg on the motorway without even trying to get the best results.
I have had this car for 12days now. It was the main dealer's managers car before me, with 7k miles on it. Today I zero'd the on board fuel calculator 0.5 miles before getting on the motorway for a steady 75 mile journey. I was aware all the time of economy as this was a trial. I returned 54 mpg ! About 2 mpg better. My urban suggested should now be 56.5, extra urban 72.4, combined 65.7mpg... Read more
You cannae change the laws of physics! It takes a certain amount of energy to move a cars mass against forces trying to resist that movement. So no huge step change in efficiency is that credible. Curse the E.U!
We've got a 52 plate Nissan Micra SVE and its not starting up. This has happened the second time in past week or so. The first time I jump started it and it started working. But yesterday I left it for jump start for at least 10 minutes but nothing is happening. When I tried to turn it on yesterday there was nothing on the dashboard. Even hazard lights weren't coming on. So I thought it was the battery. So once I got the jump leads connected to my Honda Accord the dashboard lights and hazard lights came on but when I was turning the key there was nothing. Starter motor isn't even kicking in.
My brother-in-law thinks its the immobiliser. I'm not a car expert so I'd really appreciate any advise. Thanks Read more
There was an immobiliser recall on these which caused the battery to drain.
I would join the Smax owners club .com, buy a modified ELM327 diagnostic tool from them, download the required software (Forscan) and you will have a much better facility than a basic fault code reader.
