I have received lots of good advice on this site about car buying. I would welcome information from anyone with experience/knowledge of this particular model.
It is a Volvo S40 2 litre petrol LUX 2008 60,000 miles on the clock priced at £6,480. I saw that VED is high. What I am concerned about is if at this age and mileage there a possibly/probably some large bills likely. I do like the Volvo make for comfort in particular.

Just returned from test drive. Clutch pedal did rise higher than expected. I didn't get 'the feeling' for the car. Also dealer only offers one month warranty ( I know that is not correct but wouldn't want hassle if/when there are problems ) The posts have saved me money and hassle - very much appreciated.

Carry on looking !

My car has begun to rev high when I change gear, it runs ok other than the high revs. I have had the diagnostic test done, but everything is normal. The gagage think it may be the clutch is on the way out as the pedal is very high, the car pulls ok and goes into gear ok.

I have noticed a slight brake cylinder leak at the back and wondered if this would possibly be allowing air into the fluid which also serves the clutch master cylinder. any help would be appreciated.... Read more

Thank you for replying, have already sorted out the leaking cylinder problem. The tickover speed is normal or just below, its when i change up the gears on depressing the clutch that the revs go up but when in gear its still a bit fast for the speed but not not excessively

My Passat recently (1.9 Tdi) got a new Clutch master & Slave cylinder. Now however i'm having trouble putting the car into third gear, it does not grind it just doesn't sit into gear correctly and if I depress the clutch it will grind then. However if you try twice or three times it eventually goes into gear correctly. Again I stress it does not grind going into gear just if i depress the clutch when its not sitting in gear correctly. I have had this problem for three weeks now and I feel as though all other gears are also becoming notchy and sticky however that could be me being paranoid, I'm very unsure. There are no vibrations from the Flywheel and it could have been done before I purchased the car but I can't confirm this for sure. Any help and advice appreciated, Thanks! Read more

Can I take my expensively purchased Corsa 195/55 R16 spare wheel and tyre to newly acquired Astra which has 215/50 R17 tyres. Get me home only. Same 5 bolt positions.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, a non-technical life is more my thing ! Read more

Also bear in mind a space saving spare wheel is for emergency use only. Not for permanent fitment.

The difference between the manufacturer fit emergency spare and the wheel the OP is proposing to use is very big. The manufacyturer has tested and approved the emergency spare for use on the Astra, the manufacturer has not approved the Corsa wheel for use on the Astra....

Anybody here from the area? I'm considering a move and have some flats in the area http://www.gpees.co.uk/forsaleoffice/Walton-On-Thames/731 Just want to know what the areas like? Need to be close to London but don't want anywhere too busy! Any thoughts? Read more

I live in Ashford just over the river. Walton is a sought after area with a half decent shopping centre and some large detached property there abouts. The sort of people that live there, there is an Aston Martin showroom, so that gives an indication. As with all areas, there is social housing so just be a bit sharp where you buy. Otherwise, I'd live there if I could afford it. Good luck.

i was charged with speeding at 97 miles per hour on a motorway in Scotland. I got 4 points and £250 which my company paid for as I was speeding to get my bosses to the airport. This was about 9 or 10 years ago.. Is this seen as a criminal record and will this appear on an enhanced DBS Check? Read more

I work in London and my car is currently struck in Doncaster. Been told that i need a new clutch. Quoted £900 for replacement. Please your help is required. Is this a reasonable quote? Also, can anyone suggest independent garages that can carry out the repair in the Doncaster Area? All help will be grateful received. Thank you folks :-) Read more

Who's quoted 900 notes? An Audi dealer?

Sounds expensive to me. £400 - £500 would be more like it....

This should make it quite a nippy car if they are using the 1.5ltr from the Mazda 3 range, probably more torque and less CO2 than the Yaris 1.33ltr also. Read more

From side window line up it is ruined. Frumpy and old now, the top of the windows and the rear door treatment is now terrible nothing like the stunning show car, roof spoiler mising as well.
The people who signed this off are mad. Was almost certain to buy if like the show car, no chance now!
