I was interested to read the following from the MB website:

"This new transmission has been significantly improved in terms of economy, driving dynamics and ride comfort. With its short shift times and almost imperceptible gear changes, the system ensures the engine is always operating at the optimum speed to minimise fuel consumption. Noise and vibrations have been reduced, adding to an already sublime driving experience. And longevity has been increased, with the recommended transmission fluid change interval extended from 30,000 miles to 75,000 miles."... Read more

I thought MB recommended 40,000 mile changes. This is the first I have heard of it being 30,000.

Up until recently I used a mobile mechanic for servicing my main car. The cost for a main service with him for the aforementioned car was £140. Having felt a visiting mechanic fitted in with my work pattern, I decided to get a quote from another one, who had been recommended to me. You can imagine my surpise when I was quoted £250 by this guy. I then contacted the garage that has carried out my last two MOT. Their quote for the same service is £140. The £250 sounds a bit of a rip off to me. I'll be booking the car in with my MOT garage. Read more

What parts did they fit? An oil filter, the engine oil and maybe a cabin filter???

Oil filter, fuel filter, no oil...........................only joking, thought that was rather an odd question. Semi-synthetic.

In May my daughter was involved in a minor traffic accident, the other car was at fault and admitted liability ( it hit her from behind) details were exchanged and she immediately informed her insurance company( she is fully comp and has her no claims protected) she was contacted by her insurers approved garage and arrangements were made to repair it, this was all done and she thought this was the end, yesterday she received a letter from a solicitors acting on behalf of her insurance company to recover the costs from the other party's insurance company, she rang her ins company and they said the other company refuse to pay) this letter has made her anxious and asks her to sign it so they can make the other ins company pay. I have seen the letter and it doesn't make sense, what should she do? Read more

As we know any make of car is a global clone, any one model fits the entire planet. The engineering and electronics in cars are so sophisticated - okay for the metropolitan rich. So how on earth do they manage to maintain and cope with breakdowns in third world countries where the supprt structure is few and far between and even if in the cities no help in remote places hundreds of miles away? You can't plug a lap top in in the middle of the bush somewhere. Read more

There was probably a blockage and they just kept pressing and burned out the pump. I've done a few of them where that has happened.

I'm looking for advice on a suitable dedicated Sat nav product and would like to hear of your experiences of their pros and cons and suggestions for a suitable product.

Requirements are a large clear screen, only need UK maps, lifetime maps, live traffic updates, voice control, always connected, no link to my phone, easy to fit and remove, approx. time to update via computer. The Sat nav needs to function continuously on A, B and other roads with no holes. Thank you. Read more

Thanks for your responses, most helpful.

I've considered Waze but doesn't provide everything I need especially when I'm going to a new area etc.

I went to Halfords and had a look at Garmins and TomToms. The Garmins have a clear display and graphics but not all the features I would like. The TomTom 6" screen doesn't have enough defination, I could see the Pixels, they need to increase the amount of Pixels or make it HD to justify the cost, also the 6" models are too wide to fit into the space on top of the Fiesta's recessed central console. The TomTom 5" screen had better defination and it looks clearer as a result. So it's down to one of the 5" models. The TomTom GO 5000 would provide everything I need, but I'll consider other model as well. Any help appreciated.

Hi I have a 2000 X reg Renault Scenic 1.6 Alize sport.

Last week whilst out it started spluttering and came to a standstill.there was a strong smell of petrol. luckily I know someone who knows a bit about cars so they came to help me and it turned out the fuel pipe had come loose so they fixed it back in. And has been ok for last couple of days but yesterday it started reaking of fuel again and was some on leaking on the road. I came to go out in it last night and now it won't even start. :( tried again this morning and still won't start. I've checked under the bonnet ( pretty clueless ) but fuel pipe isn't loose so can't be that. I do know it's been overfilled with oil and needs an oil pump. could this be causing the issue?

Any ideas what else it could be? As it can't be driven so can't get it to a garage at the moment.

Tried googling it and seems there are issues with fuel pumps and relays on this model.

Only had it a month but it was a private sale sold as seen. I've been in touch with previous owner but they said it never had this problem and I have to say for past month has shown no signs of it. I do know it has other issues like a back box that needs replacing, new shock absorbers and 2 new back wheels as I had it checked over by a garage just after I bought it but they never mentioned any issues petrol or fuel pump wise.

Just concerned if this is a big issue coupled with other work that needs doing that it may be better to scrap it? Or sell as spares and repairs.

Any advice appreciated especially on the fuel issue/reason for non starting.

Sold as seen means nothing people try to hide behind thinking they are smart. I would say if they mark up as sold as seen they probably knew about the problem. If the car had the problem before and they knew about it not that they would admit it they have sold you something un satifactory for purpose, aswell as something which is dangerous to your self and other road users. I would seek advice from trading standards about it.

It was a private sale so is was sold as seen. As long as the seller has not lied about anything he was asked thene there is no come back.

Hello Wise People,

I have been reading a ton of reviews and I am struggling to get to the bottom of which car will be best for me. I am a Mature student and I need to buy a car that will last me for as long as possible and ideally be reliable. I will be covering be covering 8k miles a year (guess) and I know that Diesel is not cost effective for these distances, but I wonder if this is offset by the engine lasting longer?... Read more

If your normal daily/weekly use will be local stuff, you may prefer to stick will a smaller car, and just buy in a roof rack or box for once or twice a year use, and stick with the Focus-size not a rather large Avensis.

A Honda Jazz will take everything you have, and your nieghbours stuff too.
