HERE! I don't know anyone who has regular access to Glass's Guide well enough to borrow a copy. Does anyone know what a good target price is for an X-Trail, 2.5 petrol auto, good spec, average miles, about 2006 or 2007, from a dealer? This territory seems to be murky and I've spoken to some funny sounding dealers, especially near Birmingham, no disrespect to that fine city. The asking prices seem to be all over the place. Actually thinking about it I might go private, but knocking them down in price to compensate for the underlying fault they are no doubt concealing!! Ha ha.
I'm so taken with the idea of getting one of these I might join the X-Trail club. I'm sure there is one!... Read more
help please before I lose my hair. my son has a r reg 1100 petrol whilst he was driving it cut out just died AA attended and diagnosed crankshaft sensor blew in the connection and it started. 2 days later the same thing happens but this time it wont restart so I changed the sensor with 2 replacements to rule out a dud but no go. So after checking the car over engine cranks normally but no spark and no petrol cross wired pump and that runs ok so not the problem. So I think starter relay changed it no go so maybe a prob with imobiliser so changed out ecu and aerial coil on ignition no go have checked fuel cut off all wire connection and earths all good. I have noticed whilst standing over the engine pondering the meaning of life that the ignition relay clicks open and closed again every 3/4 minutes with no keys in the ignition? ANY ideas gratefully recieved Read more
Many Many Thanks.
Are values of this cherished plates going up or down?
Any economic gurus out there? Am thinking of getting one; my vanity is not that great that I'd happily take a substantial hit.
Thanks in anticipation. Read more
Sign up for the DVLA auctions. I've bought an unsold one for the reserve (2+3 dateless plate), for £400 after the sale. OK so it didn't sell! But it looked reasonable value and I'm not bothered when I sell it - but I probably will eventually.
The letters are a homophone of Wicks or Wickes (WYX) so I managed to convince myself it will go when I don't want it!...
For a few days there was a bit of loss of power and when hard acceleratewitha blowey sound, other than that car ran fine. one morning went out to go to work, car would turn over but wouldnt start. Called recovery they couldnt start it, he spent about an hour looking, not filling me with hope, by telling me he had only ever been to one other car the same as mine. He had no idea what was wrong, did diagnostic, came back 2 fuel sensor errors, and maf error code. Called a mobile mechanic out he had no idea either, said could be fuel sensors or maf.(maf has now been replaced) My husband uplugged both fuels sensors, then car starts and after few revs ticks over fine, but still doesnt run properly. It will cut out. After googling found out that vauxhall had recall on fuel pressure regulator, so got it booked into vauxhall. get call today they said they changed fuel sensor and it makes no difference, so they put old ones back on (odd as they were on recall) They told me they thought it was a timing issue, and ask for permission to do investigation at £95+vat an hour!! I said no.
I just cant understand why it starts if we unplug sensors, but doesnt start otherwise, surely it has to be something to do with the fuel sensors if it starts when unplugged. ... Read more
once car is started, the sensors can be plugged in and it stays ticking over fine. and as long as revs dont go low you can sort of drive it lol. vauxhall didnt give me any paper work at all, so i dont have anything to say what the values are.
I drove a 1.6 K reg P10 Primera to 170k miles - this was a good car which I only sold as I wanted to take advantage of more modern tech, and have air con. The replacement was a 2 litre P12 54 reg Primera that now has 120k miles on the clock. It's had a few niggles, some of whcih were related to the dodgy Renault electrics shared with the Laguna, I'd be happy to keep the car for many years yet except the fuel economy isn't great, low 30's is average.
I have looked at the current Nissan range and struggle to find a suitable replacement - not helped by Nissan's style orientated penchant for designer packages, for instance the oversized wheels - who wants (or needs) 17" wheels, I downgraded to 16" for a better ride and tremendous saving on tyre prices. They also need to look at matters like boot size, and make available proper spare wheels for all their vehicles, even if only as a dealer option....
On the A14, this evening in steady rain, I saw a stonemason tailgating an HGV. Just hope he has already made his head stone. Read more
I think my rear cylinder may be leaking onto brake shoes.
When I brake I hear a slight noise. Does not happen every time.... Read more
Presume its brake squeel caused by brake dust, its normal on 25 and only takes about 1 hour or less to dedust, trim the shoes, and drums back on,if the cylinders are leaking it shouldnt take much longer they are fairly easy to do...
I've had this problem for a while. There are constant diesel marks on the panal around the filler cap (I wash my car regularly, so these are always new); if I brim it, these marks are then huge - which leads me to think that I am loosing a lot of diesel.
I've already replaced the cap once (2 months back) and then this cured it for a couple of weeks. I've wiped around the seal and the cap many times and this has not cured it. Are there any general issues with Ford's filler caps?... Read more
It was a second hand Ford cap bought off of Ebay. It seemed to have solved the issue for a couple of weeks, and then the problem began again - which I find odd. Even when it's less than half full it still leaks out of the cap if I'm driving down a bumpy country road.
What do you think to taking the cap off and washing it and the seal in some warm water with a bit of washing up liquid in so that I can eliminate the potential of any muck around the seal problem?...
My car has started 'pinking'. ( An almost inaudible tinkeling from the engine) That's what it sounds like anyway. In the 'olden days' one got it thro' pre ignition. Modern cars ignition is computer controlled so I am at a loss. It orrurs in high gear, low speed, less than 30mph, with a slight pressure on the gas, it stops when the peddle is raised. Garage says not to worry (?) but didn't identify the cause. I've changed from supermarket petrol to Shell, it's still there. Nothing's been done to the engine and all is as it ever was. Any ideas? Thanks skidpan, will investigate.
This morning got in car and battery charging light on dim.
First thoughts were dodgy brushes or other alternator problem, light would go out at about 3000 RPM (but sometimes came back on).... Read more
If you gave someone a jump start and it has happened since then, I'd suggest it has spiked the alternator and damaged either the diode pack or regulator.
I had the same thing myself once.

Nice one chaps, I do a lot of miles really but I don't mind having petrol. I'm hostile to the "dieselification" of cars everywhere and I think they are being regulated to death by the lunatics that run the EU.
I actually want a feeling of roominess inside so I might be going off this car now. Okay here comes my new thread about Jeeps....
