hi
had an issue for the last 2 weeks, I had a water pipe come off made the car over heat I topped the header tank back up and reconnected the pipe it lasted 10 days then came off again.... Read more
Either the pipe is not securely fixed or itsbeing blown off by excessive pressure in the cooling system, this could be either because its getting very hot - what is the temperature guage reading? or the head gasket is leaking and pressurising the system.

Hi, some words of advice from the experts please.
We have a Mazda MX5 Japanese import which has a Texalarm ATX16 alarm/immobiliser fitted. It is an aftermarket item rather than an original fitment judging by the wiring
Question is how do I remove it from the car? If the device is likely to render the car unusable when it feels like it we would prefer not to have it.
I am a resonably competent amateur but I am concerend that if I simply follow all the wires, disconnect them and remove the unit will I then have to reconnect any wires which were separated when the device was fitted?
Any words of wisdom will be welcome, thanks in advance!

Hi All,
A family member is selling a 2002 Ford Ka with 90,000 miles on it. They're looking for around £500-£600 for the car. Its just passed the MOT and has a years tax.... Read more
If it is good underneath, then go for it.Corrosion is the biggest killer on these. They are simple mechanicals and generally cheap to fix.Just watch for correct heater operation and power steering leaks.

Yes, please explain further what the objective of this survey is.

Hi,
In a bit of a pickle at the moment, the car had an MOT two weeks ago and it passed. I had it taken to another garage today for a full service and they've come back and said it has numerous things wrong with it and shouldn't have passed the MOT. Bearing in mind I also had a mobile mechanic do pre-MOT checks on the car and he assured me the car was in good condition and was ready for an MOT.
Unfortunately I didn't think at the time to ask the garage to take a photo to have 'evidence' of the faults they claim the car has, but... apparently the N/S/R wheel bearing has excessive play to the point of it being dangerous and the "Front to Rear brake pipe is excessively corroded" (there are numerous other things they've found/listed) - My question is, could a wheel bearing go from being fine/not noticed on an MOT to have excessive play within two weeks? Same with the brake pipes, could they go from not being a concern to 'failure' point within two weeks of an MOT?
I get that an MOT is only as up to date as the day it was done, but I'm just really shocked and confused as to who I believe. I've not used either garage before (the guy I was using unfortunately passed away, so I'm now looking for another garage and trying different places.)
I'm not remotely 'car minded' when it comes to mechanical bits and bobs so I expect I'm prime target for some garages to take the biscuit, but I can't make my mind up. On one hand, why would a garage pass it with a dodgy MOT. On another hand, why would the service garage make up the faults - they didn't gain anything from me, infact they lost £100 because they insisted on stopping the service because they were coming across to many major problems and had to phone me to discuss it and ask what I wanted to do...
Any opinions would be appreciated, please - or suggestions as to what I do next. Ideally I want to be able to see with my own eyes if the faults exist or not, I don't want to take someone's word for it if it's a potential death trap. Read more
This is where the MOT test is down to the opinion of the tester. One tester may think a wheel bearing has minimal free play while another person who likes to exagerate a bit will say it is dangerous and a failure.
The same with brake pipe corrosion, I knew an MOT tester who would fail a car on the slightest bit of surface rust on a steel brake pipe. Where another tester may put it down as an advisory....
I have an idea on how it might be possible to thwart the efforts of these ridiculous little cretins that keep posting reviews on their sinister kitchens.
Please PM me and I will explain all. Read more
Better off selling your idea to a tech company - plenty of fourms have the same problem. It's very difficult to stop real people posting in the forums.
Not really - it won't stop them doing it but my idea would spoil what they are doing and that might just make them stop as a result...

"Aftermarket warranties are usually only fit to be used as toilet paper." Although I've got to agree with the sentiment the practice is flawed.
It might be regarded as old fashioned, but my lady friends find that they get better service if they take a male relative with them, one that can see through a salesman's hard talk. What you might do is ask the dealer to take the car to an MOT garage, of your choice, and you pay for a new (and honest) MOT. If the saleman demurs, turn around and walk away. There are lots of cars for sale.
