stopped in st albans on a bus clearway with a single yellew line to pick my wife up. only there for 30 seconds and was told by a traffic warden i would be fined £100. is this right Read more
Since you clearly seem to know/accept that it is a Bus Clearway - in which case you should know not to stop there for any reason/purpose however short the time.
Daughter in law's car with 84k miles, was nice runner serviced at correct interval's but Stacy doesn't know if gearbox oil has ever been changed. She had driven to shops, reversed out OK and then into drive. Made some noises and seemed unwilling to move. Recovery driver said probably engine coolant into oil circuit. Car driven minimal distance since and will go into 2nd or 4th but not 3rd.
1500. At 68 I am old world car savvy but have never worked on this model. Is it worth using Radweld say and draining and refilling gearbox? I asked son to check engine coolant level. With the engine cold he said there appeared to be no coolant loss so could it be just a sensor malfunction? They have 13 month old twins so we all would like to resolve this problem rapidly.... Personally, I take absolutely no notice of star ratings, they are skewed at best. A car's star rating can be seriously affected by such things as boot space, headroom, legroom, depreciation, dealer network etc. For me, none of these things matter, that's why I actually test drive cars to see if they tick my boxes and not the reviewers.

Thanks Avant.
Yaris is top of my list. Hopefully be in a position to buy around October time!
Car lost all electrical power whilst driving (except hazard lights and normal lights) - no dash lights ignition etc. There was no warning lights prior to this or hint of a problem. Had to be towed home where a fuse was replaced that gave ignition lights, when trying to crank there is nothing (battery checked by AA and not an issue), AA ran a seperate feed to starter motor and it turned but wouldnt fire up. Can someone please help as have no money - literally to go to a garage to pay for hours of labour and diagnostics!! Many thanks Read more
Unfortunately, even a basic Zafira is a complicated bit of machinery with electronic modules controlling most functions. So unless you have some electronic/engineering experience it is unlikely you will be able to fix this yourself..Which fuse has blown and in which fuse box is it located? The ignition switch on these is not conventional and powers up the can network.hth
My grandson suffered a blown headgasket on his Renault Espace that required the RAC to recover the car. They gave him a Skoda Citigo hire car to get him home. Next morning it was left outside the house opposite theirs and I was asked to move it to their house for collection after the family had gone to work in their own cars. I have well over 50 years experience in driving but I couldn't start that car though I tried all the usual things. Eventually, with my wife steering I pushed it across the avenue and almost into place. The avenue is on a slight hill and I was having to really strain to make headway. When I had almost got the car in place a roofer, who had been reroofing a house down the avenue, and thus with an 'overall view', kindly climbed down, came up the avenue and told me to push in both the brake and clutch pedals before turning the ignition key. Thank you, kind sir ! Read more
Very odd - I have a Citigo in our household. No need to depress brake/clutch to start the engine. Best practice dictate we start by depressing the clutch, but the engine will start whether we do this or not.
The car has just passed it's mot but needed the headlight warning light on the dshboard sorting. Tis was done for the mot but now other things on the dash are wrong.
A New instrument cluster is megabucks and I wondered if anyone knew of anywhere round the Basingstoke area that repair this one. Read more
Go to the Pistonheads forum and ask someone on the Volvo section. Plenty of knowledgable folks there.
This is a well known problem on early phase 2 V70's. But apparently they can be repaired. The later instrument cluster had chrome rings around the dials - these are OK.
Just seen this elsewhere and seems to be an afternoons reading

We need to opt out of this law as some countries have laws that dont transcribe into our laws. The French laws on hi vis jackets, carrying breathelysers etc. A More important law is that of Drink driving. The conviciton level of DD (alcohol level varies across the EU) Many are lower than the UK but equally they have a graduated penalty system so that although you are convicted at say 60% of the UK level you get points and a fine and dont get banned until you reach a higher threshold. This would be a way to bring in lower allowable limits in the UK with a progressive fine for an amber reading say 65-100% of the current conviction level and a ban thereafter (a bit like speeding works)

Fantastic, thank you
