I've seen that it's possible for you helpful types to provide radio codes for Ford Fiestas etc.
I've just had to replace the battery on my daughter's 2002 Seat Ibiza and the radio has lost its code. We have had the car for 4 years and I'm convinced that I had the code somewhere but I can't find it.... Read more
The engine management light comes on and the engine starts making a knocking noise. Sometimes this only happens for a few seconds, other time it goes on for about a week and stops.
After this the van drives fine for a month or more and then it happens again.
I think it happens more often in wet weather if driving through deep puddles.
It has been looked at by 3 garages and they have said
MAF sensor, faulty wiring or high pressure diesel pump.
Any suggestions would welcome. Read more
The MAF usually sits after the air filter box. There should be an electrical plug going into it.
I'd start by unplugging, checking the wires for any damage then giving the plug and socket a blast with electrical contact cleaner....
OK so I just got a new head gasket and cambelt put in, new radiator, thermostat housing, water pump and expansion tank for the cooling system too. I thought the car should be spick and span after all this, but no. When I have to slow down rapidly and drop gears, or go straight into neutral, the engine simply stops and I have to restart it with my foot on the accellerator pedal (I have to cold start it like this too). The garage that did the work said to bring it in if there were any problems and they will sort it out complimentarily, so I am not too distraught yet. I can prevent the stalls if I can anticipate the speed changes and slow down gently so it is just about good for work today. It will be back at the garage tomorrow.
Any ideas anyone? I hear of vacuum leaks, idle rev speed control, or even faulty spark plugs (quite likley after head gasket issues maybe)! Does someone know specifics for my engine type?... Read more
Hi
Gunked up Idol control valve is a common fault on a mk6 1.4 petrol, eqally common is the vacum pipe to the throttle body, this pipe perishes (goes mushy or splits) if it goes mushy at idle it collapses causing hunting (engine starts fueling more to keep going, idol seems lumpy) similar or same symptoms for split pipe. funnily enough there is also a T peiced pipe conected to the ICV and it perishes and splits and also causes the problem described. If the one to the underside of the throttle body is perished it can appear fine, you really need to grab hold of it and feel if it has become soft anywhere. This part costs £11 new from fords(days) and is situated under the inlet manifold and apears to go from the crank case to the left under side of the throttle body. the one to the ICV also needs to be physically checked and when changing it spray some brake or carb cleaner into the union it goes to on the icv this should be enough to clean out the ICV at the same time. I hope this helps I seriously doubt it is anything more serious. There are a few common engine faults with mk6 fiestas most are cheap and easy to fix. Don't be milked by bad garrages.
I am based in London.
There is a loud rattling sound coming from the engine buy. This worried me so I took it to a honda repair service. They asked for £57 to do a thorough check and came back with a £908 quote to replace the alternator. Is this right? Seems excessive doesn't it?... Read more
Try SAC in Coventry for the alternator. they gave me great service when I needed one about 18 months ago. They built up a recon unit whilst I drove over to them on a Saturday morning. I'm sure they do a shipping service.
Then either get a local garage or a mobile chap to fit it for you (mobile obviously means he could do it at your place of work - so to all intents and purposes you're never even off the road)....
Hi this is my 1st post so i do apologise because if i get anything wrong as i'm new too this forum .
I have a 62 reg Ford Focus 1.6 tdci Titanium X that intermittently reports with a message that reads " Park Aid Malfunction Service Required " and i lose all power on the doors ie no central lockinkg no power too windows boot won't open and the only way too lock it is with the key inside the key fob . Then suddenly it will all come back too life and all works ok then with no warning goes off and on again at random intervals . Went too Main dealer and they said thier computer didn't come up with any "Hard Faults" and they checked the battery was holding a charge . just wondered if anyone had any similar problems so when i escalate it with them they can't fob me off so easy .

Hi,
I'm new to this forum so please excuse any mistakes made.
The next door neighbour has the car above, it has 132k on it,
He reckons it's got very rough and sluggish and has stopped using it.
My first thoughts were either EGR OR DPF, so I plugged in my newly required solus pro ( this was also a case for me to play with it to get some experience)
and it threw up the following codes,
My thoughts pointed to the DPF and additive, but would that also link in the MAFF, Turbo boost sensor & DPF sensor a?
Cheers
Mick

Just to add to this, I think P1704 is a faulty brake switch.
Bought one of these to replace the earlier model. Nice car but the handbrake won't hold enough to stop the car rolling completely on our (estimated) 1 in 10 driveway. I have tried getting the extra notch by pressing the foot brake home with the engine running, while pulling up the handbrake (about six notches in all), but this is still not enough. The car has been back to the supplier who certifies all is normal.
Does this seem normal to posters? I believe six notches are required for MOT but this says nothing about holding power as such. Parking in gear is an immediate answer but involves some fairly smart juggling when re-starting. Read more
'On the Hyundai i10 forums.seems to be a lot of people with the same problem'
I use three Hyundai forums and any handbrake issues on theose forums relate to the previous model....
Tried to start my ford ka 2007 this morning and the dials are clicking and shaking. The trip counter has reset to 0.No life at all when trying to turn car over.Oil, hand brake, abs, temp light all on.Any help would be appreciated Read more
It was indeed the battery had green flag out who didn't replace it even though it is a service they offer. Was told that the service truck carrying parts had broken down!Took it to Halford 54.99 battery 9.99 fitting
My Ford Focus 1.6tdci 2005 (Mark II) frequently turns over very slowly, and often won't start, when the engine is hot after driving for 30 mins or more. Voltage at terminals drops from 13.5v to 9v or less when cranking.
However, it always starts readily when cold (within a couple of seconds) and can then be turned off and restarted several times without hesitation.... Read more
It was the battery.
Running with the lower engine cover removed, so cooling the starter motor more than the battery, made no diffierence - which suggested that it was the hot battery that was failing. Added to that, it is cheaper and easier (for me) to get at than the starter motor. So I changed the battery - and all is now well....
I've spotted a 2011 i40 with 82,000 miles. What are peoples thoughts on such a car given Hyundai's 5 year unlimited miles warranty? Currently it's averaged 28000 miles a year, we only do 6000, so at 6 years old that average would be down to 16000 a year. And the poor thing deserves a rest LOL. Read more
Sorry to read that. However, in my view, its better to miss a good buy ( others come along ) than buy a money pit.
I hadn't done sufficient research and bought a diesel (2007) ( 3 years ago and I didn't know about this forum. It was not suitable for my motoringand has cost me significant amounts in bills, e.g approx £1,000 for new DPF....
For Seat Radio Codes you have to go online and use a professional decoding service like OnlineRadioCodes.co.uk
