Lots on the news at present about elephant poaching and the huge profits made from the illegal trade in ivory.

Some time ago a news item showed several tons of confiscated ivory being incinerated. Is there a case for selling such hoards instead? This ought to depress the price and make poaching less profitable, the sale proceeds could fund more game rangers (and longer sentences for those convicted).... Read more

If that is the case, this needs to be on a wide-spread scale and in all countries, which seems impossible...the fox-hunting debate springs to mind here.

My wife has a 54 plate Agila 1.0. 2 years back it was playing up and I eventually traced it to the thtottle body which I replaced. Well tonight it's doing it again :-(

I'm finding it hard to pick one from EBay. There are several part numbers and I'm lost. Can anyone help? The reg is H10 OHR if that helps.

I'm thinking about buying a 2006-2007 and diesel estate car that has run about 90,000 miles. The Honda Accord 2,2 ctdi and Ford Mondeo 1,8/2,0 tdci (mk2 or possibly mk3) seems to fit my needs and budget the best. Which one is likely to be the most reliable and economical?

The older style auto gearboxes "slush-box" seem to be going out of fashion. Is it possible to ceep, with no throttle input, with the newer dual-clutch automatic gearboxes? Are they now more reliable or are they still having many failures with reliability? I need a new vehicle, auto, but must be able to creep within an inch of positioning in my very narrow drive. Holders of valid driving licences will not need to replace their current driving licence. The old driving licence format is still valid and will be updated gradually as they are renewed and replaced.

What’s changed

The new card, provided by Gemalto (UK), will have a refreshed design and incorporate a host of improved security features including a new security holograph, raised surface pattern and an Optical Variable Ink (OVI) which will continue to keep the driving licence secure. The latest security features will also help in the fight against fraud.... Read more

AFAIK Copart auction damaged etc vehicles. While some go to be parted out and scrapped I suspect others go into the repairable market.

In your shoes I'd be making enquiries through Admiral as to what Category of write off it was and seeking their comments on its apparent re-mergence. ...

Hi all,

I hit a pot hole quite hard a few days ago and at first everything seemed fine, however the last couple of times I have taken the car out, the steering feels very heavy, the same sort of feeling as when you are driving on a flat tyre, although the wheel I hit appears to be fine by looking.... As Madf pointed out, there's quite a few components that could have been damaged. I'd say your first port of call is to have the tracking and tyre condition checked. If the tracking is out, have the car checked over thoroughly.

I once hit a kerb in one of my rally cars and bent the rack in the steering rack. Given the rack was about 20mm in diameter compared to about 10mm for a track rod I was quite surprised. Luckily the damage only prevented me turning left!! I could go straight or right perfectly. Had to take a creative route to work for a few days whilst waiting for a new rack.

What do Renault mean when they describe a car with the 1.5 dCi 100 engine as 'ECO'?

What do they mean when they describe a car with the 1.5 dCi 100 engine 'Start Stop'?... Read more

alan1302

Don't know about the Eco but Start/Stop will mean the engine cuts out when you stop the car and put it in neutral at traffic lights, roundabouts etc and then start agin when you put it in first.
