Hi All,
Could be something could be nothing, has anyone else had this happen? For the last 2 years I've been using my old cars MOT and tax renewal times as a period to find a more modern replacement for it. So far I've had every trick in the book played at me by a variety of car dealers, and seen some proper wrecks for cars, the result of which has seen me keep my money and walk away.... Read more
MY DEALERSHIP SPOTTED SOME OIL IN THE COOLANT DURING A MAJOR SERVICE TODAY. THEY WANT DO A PROPER DIAGNOSTIC NEXT WEEK. I HAVE ONLY EVER HAD THE CAR SERVICED BY VW DEALERSHIPS. 21000 MILES AND REGISTERED MARCH 2010. FSH.
WHY WOULD THIS PROBLEM OCCUR AND WHAT ARE THE LIKELY ASSOCIATED COSTS OF GETTING THE PROBLEM FIXED?... Read more
many thanks for the swift and informative reply. Any idea as to the cost of getting this fixed in a VW dealership?

Hi all
Here’s a conundrum I hope you can help with.
I replaced the HCV in my 2003 Ka Mk 1 in the summer when I was getting blasted with hot air. All was well. Then recently (with it being winter) I can only get cold air...
I thought I would check it and having removed the scuttles and the electrical connection, just tried it anyway - hot air produced! Then I put everything back together and it was fine. I wondered if the valve had just got stuck as I had been away and not driven the car for a month.
After a couple of days of it working properly, it now only blows cold. However, all the pipes front and back of the valve are hot.
I have tried everything I know - there is no airlock as far as I can tell, hosing through the valve inlet and return gives clean water and no gunk.
I have checked the voltage again and it is is odd - it pulses as it should in intermediate settings, but is 7.8V at fully hot dial setting and 12v at fully cold - I thought it was supposed to be the other way around?
Any suggestions? Has the control panel gone?
Cheers
Ben

Indeed, they both are hot. What would be the most effective way to diagnose and then rectify if this is the problem?
i have just bought a zafira 2001 dti, there was a lack of acceleration up to 2-5 rpm, then it takes off, i felt that i was putting my foot down further than i should be, the car runs great once i am moving, cruises at 70 & put your foot down accelerates no prob, a engine control speed sensor has been mentioned, saying car isnt getting the right amount of fuel at low revs, is this so? could it be anything else? agr valve? is this a easy fix? i dont know where to start thanks ROB Read more
From your description it sounds more like a faulty turbo or turbo actuator.
132K miles, gently driven at 60 - 65 mph for fuel conservation, on cheap diesel. Got a few fault codes recently which are apparently typical of my boring driving style.
I examined an identical but younger engine in the scrap yard, and I expect mine, like it, has a coked up intake, EGR valve etc. etc. We reap what we sow.... Read more
The reason most people take no notice is because they understand that the product is snake oil,if you care to google this site something you seem to have failed to have done you will see these products disected into component parts and the answer that always comes up is they are not worth the money .We run two Peugeot 307s in the family I am well aware as to where the EGR valve is situated on these cars not really difficult to get at but if it is proving difficult for you I am sure you have found some product that does the job.
I'm having a nightmare with this one. Last September my Espace went in to limp mode on the way back from France, after we got home I went to my local garage who said the turbo had gone, they ordered and fit a new turbo and for 3 weeks the car ran fine. Then while my wife was driving the acceleration became jerky, I took it back to the garage, they had the car for over a week and couldn't find anything wrong with it and suggested I took it to my Renault dealer, which I did. I explained the above to Renault and they said they would see what they could do. They put it on the diagnostic machine which came up with no faults so they sent the injectors away to be tested, but they all came back fine, after further investigation they said I needed a new turbo. I went back to the garage who said that can't be possible so I took the car to a diesel specialist who confirmed that the turbo was not working, he also said that the turbo looked older than 5 months but obviously couldn't say that for definate. I have gone back to the garage to explain that 2 mechanics, a Renault dealer and a specialist have said that the turbo is at fault and they are saying that they can't send it back as the company that supplied the turbo have said there can't be anything wrong with it, I have insisted that they send it back and have got written evidence from the othe 2 garages to confirm the information but still they are reluctant to send it back. I am giving them until tomorrow to get back to me, then with advice from trading standards, who believe I have done more than I need to, I will be sending a letter stating the Supply of Goods and Services act 1982 and will see what happens from there. Any extra advice would be greatly recieved, and I will update as soon as I get answers. Read more
Thanks very much, still ongoing, phoning today, if there is no progress I am going to remove the car from them and take it elsewhere, I've had enough now.
Has anybody seen anything about the electric car races to be held in various cities round the world, including London. The US IEEE Spectrum magazine has an article in the January 2014 edition regarding the races. It looks very interesting. Hopefully the London race will be held on a Sunday or the poor commuter will be discomforted. Read more

I have a 54 plate vectra 2.2direct design and I'm thinking of changing the standard exhaust system for a stainless setup but there is no cut outs on the rear bumper for this .. Do I need a new bumper or just the valance ?? And would I see a worth while increase in performance ?? And also any tips or advice any one can give to help ?.... Read more
With close coupled cat(s) most of the back pressure is in the 'hot' section of the exhaust rather than the silencing. If you drive the car hard mild steel is perfectly sufficient for corrosion protection.
hi all i bought a 55 plate mondeo estate of a trader 4 months ago and in that time had nothing but problems fuel return rod broke so kept cutting out,,,,injectors packed up so they got replaced then went like a rocket for a day then the engine starting playing up again turns out a cracked head...glad i not paying for all this work....now the trader has been great we have now had a new well second hand engine put in runs and drives nice now.....Now my problem is this 2.0 tdci duratorq engine that has been put in just dont have that quick pull away like the original 2.0 tdci zetec ....compared to the zetec the car needs a kick up the backside to get moving.....i can say its not sluggish it not trying to cut out just dont have that pulling power bottom end.....is this natuaral for a duratorq...
thank you Read more
There is a simple difference between the "Duratorq" engine and the "Zetec" engine.
The Duratorq is diesel and the Zetec was a petrol used between 1991 and 2004 in some Escort's, Fiesta's, Mondeo's and Focus models....

( If you are a reasonably busy trader I don't believe you would have the time to find out a great deal?)
Hi please see previous reply for my previous answer.
In addition because I've been in the trade most of my life ,it takes me about twenty minutes including a two or three mile test drive to figure out what major faults a car has ,
Things like wheel bearings ,alternators , bodged exhausts can be missed ,but generally items like these can be repaired at reasonable cost and the cost of repairs can be covered within the profit margins .
Finally I always put a new mot on a car I sell .Buyers are encouraged to buy when a car has a new mot ,Just as important , an independent source has verified the car to be safe as it leaves me ,that's really important for me .
