Interesting article for those thinking of getting a black box.

Fined by your insurer, whatever next?

Thats something I've always wondered about - the cost of fitting the black box and also the cost of removing it when you change cars.

Obviously the insurance companies will load this cost into the premium. Didn't AutoExpress have an article recently where the got quotes for a young driver (21) and the black box quotes were all higher.

Hi. Interesting article. I have had one fitted 2 years ago - telematics box - by Insure the box. No charge for fitting or removing. No penalties or fines to date. The only issue for me is that I do about 2000 miles each year and they give a minimum 5000 miles. Plus bonus miles - so far averaging a 1000 miles! It has saved me money on insurance the last 2 years so well worth it. But I do review when my renewal arrives.

I was on the A12 the other night. There was an accident just in front of me. Eventually the police turned us round and led us off the a12 by driving down the carriageway the wrong direction until we could exit on an entry ramp. I wondered if I had this box fitted would it tell insurers I had gone crazy and driven up a major road the wrong way for two miles? Some tecbnology is good this however is too much.

In addition to the above concerns, I wonder if fitting such a device could void a car manufacturers warranty.

I have seen cars that have had telemetric type devices removed and there has been bare live wires just dangling around behind the dash.
