Do I need to go to a dealer to get a towbar fitted - pool182
I have a 59 plate Renault megane.

Anyone know? And how much?

Try your local paper, usually an excellent mobile chap who does nothing but fit bars. Personally I'd prefer a specialist.

I was told they had to be wired in a certain way, which required a dealer. Not sure if this is true.

No need to go to a dealer. Many of them contract the work out anyway.

Worst case, you'll need a dedicated wiring loom, and maybe the car programmed to know the towbar is there. Any decent mobile fitter will sort if all for you.

MAjor towbar supplierss like Witter have their own installers.

I'm in process of sorting a towbar for my 2013/63 Berlingo. Working way though Caravan Club guidance at the moment - hadn't realised it could be so complex!!

Go to the "towsure" website-they'll tell you what wiring you need and sell you it.For bromptonaut,they'll sell you the towbar.

Witter will give you an exact quote on their website.

The Caravan Club caution about DIY fitting these days 'cos of complexity etc of Canbus electrics.
