I was told today that to buy a Ford Direct car (off their computer system) a deposit of £500 ( non-refundable) is required to order a car. The car will not be delivered until a secured order is placed for any given Ford Direct car. Upon delivery the final amount for the car is then paid, upon which I can then drive the car home. If I'm not satisfied with the car (i.e. a fault is found) I can return the car to be fixed/rectified, if the fault cannot be easily fixed (for whatever reason) then I can return the car but I will lose the £500 deposit.
The Ford dealer concerned does not stock Ford Direct cars, but they do have access to them over the Internet ?

Is this what others have been told or this a sales pitch ? Read more

Tyres on my Hilux are 205R16C 110/108 S; aspect ratio, viz;the figure normally shown as the second number after the tread width is not stated. How do I match snow chains to this sizeing specification and what does the C and the 110/108S represent ?Regards, Frank Read more

RT

Any tyre without an aspect ratio is automatically regarded as 80 or 82, the two being regarded as the same.

"C" stands for Commercial, ie extra load but there's no universal standard so it's irrelevant....

I thought at first that perhaps they should preforce be virulent orange or clearly sign written, but that would perhaps be unreasonable.
I then more reasonably thought that since they attract free road fund licence, that they should have special DLA numberplates.

This would allow the general public who pay for these vehicles to moniter any misuse (ie their use as a taxi) & report same.... Read more

Thanks for pointing that out Bromptonaut i forgot to mention Atos have nothing to with Tribunals which is why 40% of appeals are successful. You take Atos out of the equation and suddenly people are deemed not fit for work. Hmmmm. A Tribunal is comprised of a proper Judge and real medical experts, all of them independant of course and in 40% of cases they rule against the Atos hacks.

If that doesnt prove they're declaring people fit for work wrongly just to get their bonus then i dont know what does.

Have just had my tyres switched to Winters. However I made a small cock up and ordered 185/65/R14 on the phone, when I arrived at the tyre place I realised my mess up as the actual tyres on before were 185/60/R14.

I suggested reordering but the tyre place (which is generally good and I've used before) said it would not really make any difference so I agreed to have them fitted. I felt bad as they were ordered specially and I'm sure the cock up was mine.... Read more

The only thing that would concern me, is the size you now have listed for your car as an approved size, if it is no problems, if not it might be prudent to tell you insurance company about your alternative winter size....

There is an extremely long forum from some time ago regarding the problems many people had experience where the ESP light comes on and cannot be turned off. One of the entries made by HonestJohn himself is on the link below which claims to have found a cheaper alternative to using the main dealer £1500 solution. However, the post ends with "there is a cheaper alternative by:" and then doesn't say where the I can get the cheaper alternative from. Might be my browser but either way can someone tell me who I can get the fix from.? When I originally read it I think it was somewhere in Oldham.

I wouldn't bother with a £235 repair kit which simply replaces the sensor for a like-for-like brake pressure sensor. Get the unit overhauld by a specialist company that will upgrade the sensor to stop the fault coming back. Got mine done at £285.00 INCLUDING fitting labour and it came with a full lifetime warranty.

Call the guys up and see if they'll do the same for you 02079983792

I'm looking to buy a cheap, used runaround that is fun to drive but very economical. My budget is around £2K but could go up a little if required. It needs to be reliable. It does not have to be practical at all but must be good-looking. Any suggestions? Read more

I am looking for a cheap car to run, but I work from home, get shopping delivered and live 5 minutes from the central line in London, with petrol prices as they are I am finding it difficult to decide whether to invest or continue getting a minicab if I need one.
