Hi guys,
I've just bought a 1999 1.8 Focus from a private seller a couple of days ago and this morning the car started fine, driving along all ok then stopped to drop something off at my friends and when I got back in the car and turned the ignition on, both indicator lights came on the dashboard without flicking. When I tried to put the hazards on they wouldnt go on at all. I checked that the indicators were flashing on the outside of the car but they weren't.... Read more

There's no particularly good reason that it couldn't just let you use the
same code several times (even though you're not really changing anything
after the first time). I assume it hasn't come up until now because most

I have unsuccessfully tried to remove the engine coolant temperature sensor from my 2001 endura engine located on the lower right inlet manifold. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Dear Back Room,
I am thinking about buying a 2nd hand Grandis (2008, 40k miles) which is a 2.4 petrol model with CVT. The car looks tidy all round, but with one exception - the brakes make a grinding noise that is quite noticable, and when braking in reverse they squeal lightly.... Read more
I'll haggle but with the price of new discs and pads, main dealer fitted, in hand. Where I live it's very hilly and I'm not prepared to muck about with any sort of question over the brakes.
Thanks for the advice
Really strange one. My Xsara started to cut out at junctions and had really bad idle. Changed ICV and then it began to hedge on tick over so replaced the Throttle Pot. All seemed well and then the car started to rev to about 3000rpm when hot and under no load so changed the ICV again and made no difference. Changed the fuel filter and upon failing MOT on emissions also changed O2 sensor and MAP sensor. At the same time changed air temp sender and checked everything over. Ran OK for a couple of days and has now decided to rev to 5000rpm when hot. with all the sensors changed could the car be drawing air in after the throttle body causing it to rev. Only reason for asking is I can change standard idle by messing around near the body. Any help would be much appreciated. Read more
Hi Guys,
I have a bit of a moral dilemma here. I've just agreed a decent trade in price of my Focus for a newer used car. It was an honest deal and the garage I bought my new car off were very accomodating, so much so that I want to get the car I bought from them serviced there for the rest of its life.... Read more
As long as you are sure he's revealed all the faults, existing and hidden, in the car you are buying, then yes, it's morally correct to tell him about yours ;-)
I think I've had a duff batch of petrol. Fuel economy is rubbish this last tankful, and the emissions stink! I had a little panic that my catalytic converter was on the blink but I reckon that's supposed to smell like bad eggs.
Blinking Texaco as well!! I shall go back to Asda (or make the extra effort to go to Shell)!... Read more
In all seriousness i dont think ive had 'bad petrol.' I also dont particularly buy that theres a big difference between supermarket and 'branded' fuel. I get the same economy regardless of where i go really and i usually go to Sainsbury's or Texaco.

changed the belt and tensioner as i thought it was this problem the tensioner is a gates plus belt and still i have the rattling noise i also have new continental belt kit and the cam locking tool just need to get the water pump which is on order but i still have the rattle which stops when the engine is warm could it be the cam belt tensioner ?

One possibility is that the striker plate has dropped.
It's the part that the door connects to on the body.
It takes a mechanic less than ten minutes to fix.
Easily done yourself ,with a ratchet and star drive bit.
