Hello All - Just got my car back from an MOT and my heating has severely deteriorated - even though it was in perfect working order prior to this. I usually have it just over half-way on (just in the red) and it's always been comfortable, but now, even though it's on full it's just about warm.

I rang the perosn who carried out the MOT (three days ago) and they said it must be the 'valve' and that it would be £80 for the 'valve' + £45 to fit it = £125. I am female, not very mechanically minded and can't help thinking I'm being conned here...sorry, but I do!... Read more

There is no part of an mot test that would interfere with the operation of the heater. Also an 03 Fiesta has no heater valve(assuming it is the boxy shape model with the rear lights up to the roofline).I would check the level of engine coolant and also the condition of the cabin air filter.hth

Just been reading the HJ website report on Geely's entrance to the UK market. To be fair that looks like a decent car, especially for £10k. Read more

Only a handful of MG6s have been sold. The advertising seems to have been non-existent.

Personally, I'd rather have demo of an established brand than an Emgrand until its been around for some time.

The garage has advised that the DMF needs replacing but they hadn't seen one on a petrol car, is this right and are there any chepaer alternatives. If I go ahead with the DMF, is there anything else I need to check has been changed at the same time? Read more

You can fit a normal flywheel and clutch to any Ford of that ilk far cheaper and you will not feel any difference in the operation commonlly done on high milers and taxis look on ebay or in Autotrader for prices.

I am gonna sound like a typical woman here but I have gone to put oil into the car tonight and after it took me a while to find the dipstick in the semi-darkness, I now cannot find where I need to add oil! Any suggestions about where I might find the oil tank?

Don't know about sounding like a typical woman, you are one up on a lot of blokes who use the low oil pressure warning light as a dipstick, we all had to start somewhere.

I know what you mean - but that warning switch is set at such a low pressure it's more of a "rebuild engine now" light !!

Some dealer/brokers are offering discounts for a private buyer if they register a new car as the 2nd registered owner. This enables them to claim volume bonuses from the manufacturer for selling more cars which in turn allows them to sell a 2nd registered owned car to a private buyer at an additional discount. The downside is the new private buyer doesn't receive the V5 document for 2 to 6 months as the company needs it for auditing purposes etc.

However, some dealers are warning against private buyers purchasing 2nd registered cars and even pre-registered cars for various reasons.

Does anyone know if there are any real downsides or negative consequences of buying a new car as the 2nd registered owner or a pre-registered car ? Read more

That's interesting TH, at least you had a good experience and as you found a significant saving can be had for such deals.

I'm not too clear what the insurance issues are though. Say a person were to collect the car a few days after the 1st registration is there any guarantee the 2nd registration would have been made prior to collection of the car ? This would eliminate any insurance concerns regarding ownership of the car.

Been trawling through the websites looking for a good deal on some new tyres before winter, and mentioned this to my friendly local VX dealer who services my epica, and he supplied me with 4 tyres that a customer didn;t want on his new vauxhall. Firstly, I got a good deal, but I am amazed that someone buying a run of the mill car can not be happy with the tyres that come with the car, in this case michelin. car literally driven off the transporter, all the coloured markings still on the outer tread blocks Read more

We have been told that we need to have our catalatic converter replaced on our scenic we have only done 90000 kms since we have had this card - is this necessary or can we just have an exhaust fitted. Read more

I'd want to know more details first. Do they mean catalyst or particulate filter - did 2007 Scenics have DPFs?

If it is the catalyst it can be replaced with a piece of pipe or the internals removed and the car is still legal....
