Hi,

When I am at low speed and start to engage the clutch whilst braking in my 106 (2001 Y reg), the car jerks as if I was slamming the brakes on. It feels like the brakes slip. I have booked it into the garage tomorrow, but would be good to have an idea of what it might be and what it might cost so I know what to expect!... Read more

If it was, you'd no doubt need shoes twice as big. ;>)

Last friday evening I was walking crossing the road at a traffic lights with SWMBO, and a scooter rider didn't stop for the red light, (a biker at the head of the queue had, as well as 2 cars), and a young lady on her scooter came throught the red light and hit my wife, throwing her to the ground. She shouted at my wife and rode off. The biker, said wait here and rode off after the scotter rider and by fair means or foul made her come back quite quickly, but there were other witnesses who got the registration number anyway. I didn't get the bikers name, but a big thank you, and also a big THANKS to the ambulance and the police who were very quickly there, They even came to the hospital to take a statement! Thankfully after x rays, she was released with some interesting bruises now developing!

I believe that our finest are talking about throwing books.... Read more

Hi there,

Mk3 Mondeo has suddenly lost its clutch and felt like the cable had snapped. The pedal has no resistance and goes straight to the floor. There is still plenty of fluid in the reservoir, so it looks like it isn't spewing fluid out of the slave cylinder (at least not quickly). Does this mean the master cylinder is passing fluid back as far as the fluid input? What else could be wrong? ... Read more

Peter.N.

If you are not loosing fluid then yes, I would say the problem is with the master cylinder. You can check by getting someone to watch the fluid level whicle you push the pedal down, if it doesn't go down then its the master cylinder.

.....so the salesman who sold us our new car 18 months ago phoned to invite us into the dealership to see if he can do us a deal on a new car.

What are your experience of this sort of speculative sales patter? Is it just because it is a slow time of year for sales or are we likely to get a good deal?... Read more

Yes, that was my point. Too many don't seem to know about even basic info about the makes and models they are representing.

I had a long chat once with a chap who owned a small hotel I stayed in. His previous career had been in sales, most things including a long stint in the motor industry. He'd worked for Volvo, Rover, Ford and a few others....

Heater blows cold, even though both heater hoses are hot. If car is started and the water expansion chamber cap is left off, the coolant overflows. Does this mean there is air in the system? If so how do you remove it? Read more

Confused about getting a Boxster. Mid life crisis, want a car with a bit of vroom, always fancied a Porsche

Test drove a new Boxster, very nice. Lovely engine, great handling.... Read more

"Trouble with the Boxster is that it says "cant afford a 911"." Trouble with the Boxster for Porsche snobs is that the Boxster is a better car, with sharper turn in and better handling than a 911, thanks to it's mid engine. Also, it doesn't attract as much unwarranted attention as a 911. This is not from personal experience, but from a neighbour who has owned both. The Cayman handles better than a Boxster.

The Boxster has won 'best sportscar of the year' in some well known car magazines....
