Hi all

A few days ago I started my 407 one morning and the engine instantly stalled. After starting it again the ECU warning light came on and stayed on with a 'Depollution system faulty' message on the display. After half an hour of driving the light and message disappeared and hasn't come on since. A diagnostic check at a Peugeot dealer cleared the fault code but only pointed the technician to the fuel system in general, nothing specific. It's done just over 64000 miles. Has anyone else had this problem and had it fixed?... Read more

I wouldn't worry too much, this thread is 7 years old.

Probably too late to contribute meaningfully but I have had a similar problem for months - finally diagnosed as the coil pack by my 'round the corner' garage. No warning light, jsut juddering at 22mph/3000 + revs, and two weeks at the VW dealer while they investigated the driveshaft/gear box/engine cylinders. Luckily only got charged for a fuel pump when they asked me to take it away!

Hi,

I hope someone can shed some light on the problem i am having, i dont know what to do next.

The story so far.........I just purchased a 2004 A4 TDI Avant, the air con wasn't working when i brought it but i was assured it just needed a regas , this seemed plausible as the car had not been used for over a year. On the drive home i noticed the the Econ light would not turn off and assumed this was because the gas was low.

So had it regassed last week, the garage said it had gas in already but was a little low, i agreed to have it vacumed and refiled, i was hoping that this would cure the problem.......Alas it didnt.

Next i had it scanned and it showed a fault code G65 high pressure air con switch faulty.
So off to Audi for a new one, Bargain at only £55....Not! Anyway a small price to pay for the cold air i was expecting to pour from my vents.
I had it fitted today and still the same.....No cold air. The fault code was cleared and when re scanned there is no fault showing so the G65 switch fault has gone away and the Econ light can be selected on or off, BUT the air con still doesn't work and no further fault codes are stored????

I dont know what to do next? I cant afford to put it in the dealers, I am still skint from paying for the car. Anyone got any ideas as to what is going on?

any ideas appreciated......

Thanks

Hello,

I have got a Zafira B. I'm facing a strange problem, the engine oil level is more than MAX level (about 1cm above MAX level). I send to garage and drain 0.5 lit of engine oil, after that, the oil level is around MAX level. After 200KM running, check oil level again, the level is again at 1cm above MAX level. I have no idea what is happening to my car. The car is running smoothly without any abnormality like knocking sound, smoke and etc. The coolant level is well maintained.... Read more

Hello there any advice appreciated.

I have been quoted 215 pound to have my gear selector cables fixed, with the part alone in excess of 100 pound. However reading online and it seems that either the cables snap of become lodged out of place. My car is stilkl driveable and at the moment the problem is only a mild annoyance. So my question is, if I can still drive my car would I really need new cables? Or, if you need new gear selector cables would you be able to drive the car? I have managed to locate the cables at a breakersand am going to get them on Weds for 20 quid. At first they said I would have to get them off myself so when I phoned them to say I would bring someone with me to help me get them off they said come on Weds and we will do it for you. I am now worried that they may be smelling an easy pound and may just give me any old bit of junk. I don't even know what these cables look like. Obviously it may just be down to something simple such as being too busy earlier on in the week or better staffing on Weds idk. Any advice is massively appreciated. Really don't want to be mugged off as am only getting this fixed to sell the car. Many thanks!... Read more

Why bother asking us and a diy job when you clearly have no idea of what you are going to do . If you were competent at DIY you would not have to ask.

I have been using, or should I say may Ford dealer has been using, Castro Magnatech 5-30w fully synthetic motor oil in my 2002 Focus with a 104000 miles. Now I understand they have switched to semi-synthetic Castrol.

I wonder, do I really need to use fully synthetic oil, or am I okay with part synthetic and if so, can someone recommend an oil? Also, should I be looking at a thicker oil for an old older engine? As some have suggested, as my car seems to be using a small amount of oil monthly. There are no leaks or blues smoke so lord knows where its going. Read more

Thanks for that mate, I always keep my eyes open but rarely make to ASDA. Noticed Wilkinsons had Carlube cheap a couple of weeks ago, but only 4 litres not 5. Not bad stuff though and I'll get some if I go back.

Comma seem to have changed their range, so what was cheap stuff is expensive and the expensive stuff is cheaper, taking advantage of the popularity of Long Life additives.

Has anyone any experiences/comments/thoughts about the AA Breakdown repair warranty scheme? I spoke to an AA salesman on the High Street the other day, the cost of the warranty (about £150 a year including AA membership) seems cheap when compared to other warranties I have been quoted (Warranty Direct - £300 per year). BTW I have a 2002 Vauxhall Corsa C, 86,000 miles). Read more

We haven't heard from the OP since 2011, so he may not benefit from your advice. Hopefully others may - thanks anyway.

I have a 55 Corsa 1.0i. One of the cylinders is misfiring and the garage have told me the engine diagnostics indicate it is losing pressure, possilby due to a damaged valve or seals.

They say it is going to cost around £500 just to strip it down and diagnose, then it could be much more to repair. Is it worth progressing or should I just get a reconditioned engine replacement? The engine has only done 60k and was running well before the misfire started.... Read more

As I can't decide, I'll reply to all posts here! Ok 5000 miles is a bit bleak, what I mean, if I really need to spell it out is, 6,000 miles at the most, and keep a weather eye on that oil level!

There's only 3 litres so it doesn't take much to need a top up. A few blasts down the motorway and you're scuppered....

I have just bought a second hand Punto 1.2 8v for my son, a fairly sensible driver. It will now not go into gear, the gear stick has free movement forward and back but will not go side to side. It is possible to select a gear under the bonnet. Both cables look to be properly connected at gearbox end and underneath selector box. Any suggestions as to likely cause and cost of repair? Suspect problem at gear knob end. I am no mechanic, will need to go to garage. Read more

I had the same problem on a friends fiat punto. I could not work out which cable it was. I found though that the front and back worked. When I tried side to side the cable was broke so only one way worked. Managed to pull the cable off the gearbox end of the ball joint. I put a video on you tube. Hope fully that will help.

Hi, I'm looking at buying an A3 - 2004 plate with 55k on clock (Audi A3 2.0 140bhp TDI). Has full Audi service history and seems in good condition. Just wondering how reliable these are? Read some horror stories about oil pumps damaging engine etc. But then surely any car can have problems?!

Any advice welcome.... Read more

I have an Audi A3 - 2.0 TDI - the engine code is a BRC - could any one tell me if this is one of the potential suspect ones relating to the Oil Pump failure.

Superb car but I am thinking of stripping out the Oil pump and getting it modified as per honest John's reccomendation. Feed back would be deeply appreciated.
