Hi

I have recently been a victim of 4 x fuel injector failure in my 2006 VW Passat 2.0 TDi SE. I am considering changing to a 2009 09 Reg SKODA Octavia 1.9 TDI PD SE. Does anyone know which type of injector is used in the Octavia. I wouldn't buy it if the Siemens piezo injectors are used.... Read more

Hi,

I've been thinking of buying an approx two year old 1.9 TDI Octavia and have read about the injector issues. Given the debate about what injectors are fitted (e.g. see above), I contacted Skoda customer service, gave them the registration plate of an 09 example from a local dealer and asked who made its fuel injectors. The answer was Siemens. (I also asked if it had a diesel particulate filter (DPF) and they said it didn't.)...

Peugeout 306 HDI...well serviced by me and with good history ... 8 months trouble free fun... then last night after driving fine for an hour, up to 70mph on a cool evening, along a dual carriageway the car starts to lose power.

Accelerator is on the floor, no revs above 2000, after a few miles the car behind flashes me off the road due to white smoke. I hadn't seen it, so not too much.... Read more

I thought that too! But I suppose a seriously blocked cat would set the pressure differential accross the turbo to pretty much zero-and cause a lot of unintentional EGR. Just haven't heard of a diesel cat becoming blocked before.

I'm looking to finally take the plunge and buy a w124 estate. This is car I've always admired. I've just missed out on an E300 diesel on ebay which I suspect has been bought by a dealer. I've noticed the diesel seems to sell for much more than the 4 cylinder petrols. Is it really worth it? And is there much difference between a 230TE and an E220? I've seen a very nice 230te, one owner, 170,000 miles for sale. If I took it up to nearly 200,000 or just over would it be difficult to sell?

Cheers... Read more

The later W124s had different problems to the earlier ones... for example engine wiring harnesses on post '93 cars. Older cars avoid that issue, but will require a good old-fashioned tune-up from time to time.

I need to check the rear brake pads so i've jacked the rear up under the diff, put axle stands under the rear side jack points, removed the bolts holding the wheels on, but the wheels wont come off. There must be something else securing the wheels something I've missed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hi .when we had the bad snow over xmas my nissan micra 2003 m reg engine management light came on .a local machanic had a look at it for me .he said it was the engine chain .he turned it off for me .( anyway it came back on again )the car sounds quiet, not noisy at all.anyway started having problems with starting the car .it would start but you had to give it full throttle for it to catch and go...could take 10 times trying then on other days start first time . . but now wont start at all. the machanic rang a nissan friend to ask advice about it .anyway he said could be an immobiliser problem .the car turns over ok but wont fire up its just done 17.000 miles and was a good car till this happened .i cant afford to have unessassary work done on it just to find out its something else which alot of micras seem to have had done to solve this problem..i have checked fuses in engine compartment they are ok.took out the fuel fuse .didnt make any difference at all.advice on this welcome ..thanks Read more

You need to establish is the fuel pump is running when the engine is being cranked and is there a spark. Regards Peter

I will be averaging about 20,000 miles an year in the foreseeable future commuting to work on the motorway (70 miles round trip). Preferably need an automatic as left knee is dodgy post surgery.

Current car is a 54 plate Honda Jazz, which is fine apart from being noisy and unrefined on the motorway and a manual.

My priorities are bullet proof reliability (being a time-strapped doctor), low running costs (given the high mileage) and comfort on the motorway.

Have a budget of up to £13,000 and intend to buy a 2-3 year old second hand car. Either a good sized hatchback or saloon would be fine. Diesel would obviously be preferable, but an economic petrol or hybrid would be fine as well.

Any suggestions from the panel? All advice gratefully received.

Many Thanks,

There used to be big issues with the Ford Focus Cmax Diesel auto gearbox failures, presumably not the same as the Powershift Diesel?
