Hi i am looking for some help, This is the third time its happened now, the garage are at a loss,
Last time they said it was frozen diesel in winter but now the same problem has happened again.
What happens - when driving along it struggles to accelerate in any gear and slows down to below 1k revs cuts out abut 500rpm. the glowplug light flashes once just as the engine stalls out,
( sometimes when driving it stutters like its about to stall or there isnt enough fuel but then its fixes itself again and is fine for another few thousand miles)
1st call nov 2010- AA got it fixed after an hour to trying to start but could didnt know what the problem was.
2nd call dec 2010 - Advised AA to tow to garage without start from ford garage so they could see if any fault codes came up, no fault we detected and they couldnt fine any other problems, they thought it was frozen fuel so they checked fuel lines and replaced the battery,
Today - called AA out and being towed to garage as we speak, i know its not frozen fuel in this weather.
any help would be great as i cant drive it anywhere without the worry of it cutting out Read more
I am having a issue with my car, whilst driving yesterday, I lost power on acceleration and the car seemed to be making a hissing noise when I attempted to accelerate. Dark smoke was coming from the exhaust when I revved the engine. I called the AA who revved the engine and said I needed a new turbo. Now this is highly expensive and I wondered if anyone knows if there is something else it could be rather than the turbo. The car has doen just under 80k miles. if that is any help. If it is the turbo is it worth getting a refurbished turbo? Or does anyone know where I can get one that doesn't break the banK? Read more
Quite. Caterpillar, Scania, Volvo etc will have similar TBOs. To be strictly honest, my comparison wasn't entirely fair. Heavy duty diesels keep their AFRs above 21-22 and keep the EGTs down. Passenger cars tend to use tiny turbines compared to the compressors and ramp the fuelling right up to the smoke limit. However, this is usually only for very intermittant bursts.
But it does illustrate that turbos are, on the whole, pretty reliable.
My 89k Mondeo is giving 15mpg (urban), the oil and filter have recently been done and the air filter is in good condition can anyone please recommend what else i should check to improve this. Thanks. Read more
Thanks again to all :)

Hutch,
You will need to get the clutch pedal assembly replaced. They wear after a time and the operation gets heavier and heavier until it will fail completely....
Choosing the Superb as a replacement for my Passat seemed a good idea at the time. However the dealer, the UK company and the factory are only notable for their wall of silence and inability to answer a simple question. What is the colour of the car they have agreed to supply me? I suspect the obfuscation is due to sales targets and in their expectation that in saying as little as possible to their customer and they may rely on a "sorry this is what the factory supplied - nothing we can do" when the car is supplied. In the wrong colour.
The dealer made a strong conditional close to the sale. The condition was simple - we had to accept the new Skoda green rather than Amazonian green - BUT neither the salesman nor the sales manager knew what colour the new Skoda green would be, but if we did not accept the new Skoda Green we could not order a new Skoda Superb in a green colour.
Neither the salesman nor the sales manager knew what the new green colour would look like because they said they had no information from Skoda and no colour samples, one man thought the new colour might be greeny silver the other greeny blue but both agreed it would be lighter than Amazonian Green.
The skoda Dealer had an Amazon green vehicle in their showroom and my wife was not happy with the Amazonian Green, she thought it too dark, my wife is very happy with the condition of sale that we have the new Skoda green because both sales people agreed it would be a lighter green than Amazonian green.
Since agreeing, with my wife, to the condition that we would buy a Skoda superb new colour green unknown I have been told we cannot have the new Skoda green but must have Amazonian Green otherwise the discount of 20% would no longer be applicable to this sale and delivery would be an extra 4/6 weeks.
I have since spoken with Skoda UK and they do not know what the new colour will be and confirmed the new colour would add a delay of 4/6 weeks to the delivery date given.
I have pursued the order with the Skoda Dealer who still does not know (as at Friday 20 May 2011) what the new colour will be or if the new Skoda colour will mean paying extra above the agreed purchase price.
I have thrice asked the factory to clarify what colour the new Skoda Green will be, and if they have any samples of the new Malachite Green Metallic and may they send me a sample and asked that our new Skoda Superb be supplied in the new colour as per the condition of sale imposed by both the Skoda dealer's sales manager and saleman. No responce, neither acknowledgment nor reply.... Read more
Skoda UK customer services are also a pretty complacent bunch with no sense of urgency at all.

Trying to avoid getting speeding fines with my recently purchased van. I have recently bought a VW T5 Transporter to use as a dayvan/campervan, it is carpeted thoughout, has a rudimentary bed, side windows and I am about to have rear windows fitted to the back doors. It is registered as a light goods vehicle on the V5, weighs in at 1960kg unladen and has a 1000kg load carrying rating.
I understand that it means that I have reduced speed limits on unrestricted single carriage roads - 50mph rather than 60 - but am good for 70 on dual carriageways and motorways. Is that right? Also, any idea of where I stand when driving in Europe. Is there any advantage in getting it reclassed as a campervan, or can I have reclassed as something private that would allow me to run at normal speed limits. Ironic that someone can have a Bently or a big 4x4 that weighs more than a fully loaded T5 and not have any speed restrictions.... Read more
You will want to recheck Highway code rule 124 (see www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport/Highwaycod...4 ) while you're driving it as a light goods vehicle. While your limit on motorways is 70, same as a car, your limit on dual carriageways is only 60.
Given how enthusiastic the authorities are about clamping down on speeding, no matter how minor, it's worth making sure they have no chance of catching you out.
Hi,
I've had a problem with my 307 that started today, all of the electrics appear to have failed, the heater is on full on hot but the digital climate control no longer works, the display is blank & the buttons do nothing. The main display is blank, the radio has stopped working, the dash display lights have ceased working, the mileometer has gone off, the speedometer & rev counter froze at the speed / revs that I was doing when the fault appeared. (we've disconnected the battery & this reset the speedo & rev counter but now they just show at zero during a journey). The lights, indicators, wipers, central locking & alarm all work fine. The indicators make the clicking noise but the light on the dash isn't on. Is this a case of a fuse gone or something much more serious? someone mentioned a faulty ecu which sounds scarily expensive :/ any advice or tips would be much appreciated!... Read more
sounds like a connector on your ecu has come loose- the ecu that contorl all the interior stuff is under the dash board where the fuses go- check all the connector on that black box- hope it just that or your prolly looking at a new one :(
My car just failed its MOT on emissions & lamba. Would i sort the problem out with an oil change and a new air filter or are the readings too high they seem alot higher than my reading a few years back?

Looking to replace our Mk5 Golf 1.9TDI with a Mk5 2.0TDI, and I've read about various issues with the 2.0TDI engine, but am a bit confused....... Specifically I've read plenty about injector problems and the engine stalling then failing to re-start.
Does this problem effect the 2.0TDI with the older PD system or is it with the new Common Rail engine (in which case I've nothing to worry about as the Common Rail engine only came out with the Mk6)?... Read more
No, the bean counter division moved in at VAG - Bosch injectors were too expensive and VAG/Siemens thought they could do better. The lever system required to achieve the servo needle travel with a short piezo stack is mind boggling. The failure mode is usually insulation breakdown, which shuts the whole lot down - splendid in the fast lane.
Have a look here:...
Almost a month later and still having problems, they has said the fuel sender unit needs to be replaced and would cost £470 plus vat. what does this unit do? also could this have been the problem ive had for the past year and would it cause the car
1- to stutter whilst driving like it wasnt getting fuel...
