Anomalies

My Mazda 6 2008 estate 2l diesel sports
was due a service as I checked the oil level.
Oil level was just under the X mark,
I read about having the dpf reset after a service so I called Mazda
and booked in the car.
Service done and everything was fine.
Next day I did 80 miles on motorway and boom
the dreaded DPF light started flashing.
Parked the car up and called Mazda and told them what happened.
I also accused them for not resetting the service light.
They told me to bring it in to reset it. So I drove to Mazda garage and the light vanished.
I told Mazda what happened and they took the car in for test.
They told me they found a error and reset it.
It was something about low pressure int the
Fuel system.

So my question is,
Does the dpf flashing light act as a commen
Fault light.
I thought it was, service, oil change and dpf block only?

I was talking to a colleage from Germany who told me that VW have a serious problem with the 1.4 TSi engine, in the highest state of tune, they can and frequently do throw a rod. so the affected cars are repaired FOC by VW and given a "software upgrade" which coincidentally reduces the MPG they can achieve.

Have there been any such issues here ? Read more

So they couldn't decide on a 60 degree V6 or 90 degree V8 and decided to split the difference in the valley angle-how very Renault! Surprised they didn't compromise on seven cylinders while they at it!

Bought a 2002 Ford Mondeo 2.0 Litre Zetec TDci just shy of 60,000 miles in april 2011 from a local second hand car dealership and have had countless problems since. To list a few; smoking exhaust, knocking sound, damaged window seal, faulty horn and more.

Just bought a used Mondeo (06, 100k miles) from a private seller. It drove absolutely beautifully on the test drive in all respects, and on most of my journey home too. Engine felt really powerful etc. BUT on restarting the car, after taking a short break, it then delivered about a quarter of the power it had had previously. I could barely get it to 50mph and limped the rest of the way home.

This car was SO cheap for the year and condition I knew there had to be something amiss (although the seller was adamant that all was fine and that he just needed cash urgently...) so the purchase was a bit of a punt tbh. Still, I'm going to have words with the seller on the morrow...... Read more

had the same problem last week in a 2 litre focus powerdrive .Brought it to the dealer and it took them a couple of days to diagnose a faulty DPF .replaced and cured . Curiously when I went to pick up my car ,another chap was picking up a Mondeo withthe same problem .Symptoms were .engine warning light then after a few Km no power ,foot to the floor but going nowhere .Saves on the speeding tickets though . Hasn't occured since they change the DPF fingers crossed .HW

This sort of connects with a previous post in the technical forum, however I would really appreciate if some could give an informed answer.

My 10 reg Mondeo 2.0 tdci has the service oil warning when I turn on the ignition. It could be simply notifying me of an impending service, but it isn't time for the service yet. My dealer has been useless, they simply want to sell me a £200+ service. They won't be getting it though as they have made a number of incorrect comments about this vehicle that don't inspire confidence.... Read more

Am looking at low mileage 07 or 08 plate Astras, around the £5k range. Specifically want an automatic, but probably can't pay the premium for the diesel version, and only make short journey's anyway with very infrequent motorway miles, so a bit bothered about DPF issues. Thefore want petrol version.

Fuel economy aside, Is there much difference between the 1.6 and 1.8 petrol versions in an automatic? .... Have heard that the 1.6 Astra ecoflex is a bit weedy.... Read more

You can get some excellent Jag's for under 6k like i did but 26 to the gallon isnt ideal for high mileages. I think ive noted in other threads the 1.6 in the Focus is gutless and underpowered. Personally i just dont like Vauxhall's and i'd never buy one, i'd purposely buy something worse and less useful if that was the choice. But thats just me.

Today I got the battery light up on the dash along with FAULT-BATTERY CHARGE. At the same time my power steering became non-existant.

I've tried to access the battery, which is stupidly located under the passenger seat, but cant manage to tilt the seat up enough to get access to the battery compartment. I've managed to lift it by the levers, but only slightly.... Read more

Hi, Have you got this sorted?

I have just been out and when I started my car the power steering had stopped working completely. I was driving a short distance so I decided to carry on. Then I got the same battery warning you got. There is a wierd whining noise as well....

Its about time they made the top half of timing belt covers easier to take off so you can check the belt instead of taking off front wheels , wheel arch covers ect.

My mother in law purchased a 1.7 diesel astra brand new in January 2011. The DPF warning light came on last week and she followed the instructions in the manual to give it a run. This did not improve matters and a further warning light came on to inform her to contact a dealer. She duly did this and was told the car required a service and oil change due to her having not driven enough miles. It has over 6000 miles on the clock and was not actually driven at all for a month due to the bad weather. This means that it has averaged around 1000 miles a month with regular journeys (around once a week) on the motorway of approx 30 miles, and then back again. Is this usual and should the salesman not have checked her annual milage before selling her a diesel if more miles are required? Read more

Ha, I recon she could outbreak Button. Thanks for the replies. It would appear that regardless of how many long runs it gets the short journeys (less than 10 miles) kill it. The car was being sold on a good offer (obviously being pushed by Vauxhall) by a large national dealership beginning with Evan and ending with shaw. It was sold on the basis of good economy and low tax, bummer that 2 services a year blow the savings away. Missold if you ask me as no mention of the length of journeys required to avoid this.
