Ignition key light flashing

Hi, my ignition key light keeps flashing green after the engine has been started and lasts for a couple of minutes. Also, my seat belt alarm has stopped working. Yesterday, the first time after the ignition light began flashing, I could not lock or unlock the car with either 'key'. The locks seem to be working today even though the light is still flashing. Would anyone know if this is a fuse problem and the two issue are related or if the electrics are up the swannie and I need to take the car in to the garage? Thanks. catwsl. Read more

Thanks Peter, I hadn't considered the fob batteries being low, just assumed it was the car.

Hope someone can help me here with some info, I have poor cold running for the first few minutes of driving. Then once warm car runs fine. Car starts first time and does not stall. Idle is fine no hunting etc...

I unplugged what I thought was the coolant temp sensor on the side of the engine gearbox side, car started fine etc still had problem as mentioned above. All this seemed to do was stop the temp gauge on the dash working.

Are there 2 sensors one for the gauge on the dash and one for the ecu?? Or does this one sensor do both jobs.???

Thanks phil Read more

Hi all, I was wondering if anybody could help me as I am about to lose my marbles over this car.

Its a 1.2 2002 clio with nearly 80k on the clock. I bought it second hand from a car dealer 12 months ago. When I purchased it the orange airbag light was illuminated after a few days, as it was under warranty I took it back to the garage and after EIGHT revisits to them the problem was eventually solved.... Thanks for your help mate but would that not have shown up on the diagnostic?

You'll have to forgive me as I know extremely little about cars, especially these blimming french ones. What I'd give to get my amazingly reliable corsa back....

Hi

I have a problem with the aircon, i had it regased by Nissan and they have said that the condenser drier gasket is leaking, they say that if the gasket is changed there is a possibility that the condencer will be contaminated and need to be replaced at a cost of £800... Read more

Out of warranty?

No help for your immediate problem but have you been using the aircon for ten minutes every week? Running air con (even in the winter) keeps the system lubricated and stops seals drying out. ...

Dear Forum Members,

I would be extremely grateful if anyone could pass on any hints about what the problem may be with my Renault Clio II Petrol - 16 V Extreme 53 (approx 68,000 miles). It has been regularly serviced by Renault since I purchased it 6/7 years ago.... Read more

Dear All,
Mechanic No 2 swapped the recently installed fuel injector from No 4 to No 2 cylinder (and vice versa) and that seems to have solved the problem (for now!). I do have to change gear earlier than usual due to higher revs but at least the car is running ready for my new job. Many thanks for all your help!

The symptoms do sound like the servo is being emptied and can't replenish vacuum quickly enough, however check also for flexible vacuum pipe collapsing, same effect.

Have the brake fluid replaced if it hasn't been done for a long time, are all calipers free ie not sticking....

Hi Folks. Any views on why my 06 plate VW passat lost power (speedo dropped gradually) when the display showed "Engine Fault. Garage!" I pulled onto the hard shoulder and called the RAC. They came and stuck a laptop for diagnostics. It showed nothing though old faults coded included ECU fault and turbo fault?? I drove off and back home safely and not a problem since. Very frustrating and could have been disastrous if I lost power steering too.Thanks. Read more

This seems to be a VERY common problem on these. Internet riddled with tales of it. Seems to be caused by numerous things.

For me, this one appears to be related to the steering as it cuts out when pulling away from and turning out of T junctions with the steering on a heavy lock. Could it be an alternator issue such that the alternator is drawing more power from the engine when the power steering is on full lock?... Read more

Thanks for the suggestions Ben. Finally, the fault appears to have been diagnosed and it's a new one on me. Never seen it as one of the many causes given for Ford TDCI engines cutting out. So this one can be added to the list.

That is, a vacuum leak, caused by a detached hose somewhere. Not found out where yet. But the description anfd symptoms sound about right according to this:...

Looking at 2 year old qashqai from dealership, 18000 miles. They said they need to replace the discs and pads before we test drive. Is this too soon to need replacement brake discs and pads? Could there be issues with the rest of the car? Please advise... Read more

Depend how the cars been driven, but not unreasonable especially on the front.

Good idea to change disc and pads as pads are made of harder material since they were banned from using abestos. Brake disca are service items and should be changed of worn or pitted

I do up to 200 miles a day and am looking at a used new shape astra 1.4 petrol turbo. Has anyone got one whats it like on fuel? I can't afford a new shape diesel and have concerns anyway about dpf dmf problems with diesels.

For your high mileage you need as new a car as you can afford: it could be worth looking at the Kia Ceed or Hyundai i30....
