I recently bought a Ford Mondeo , with a style pack 18 inch wheels with 40% height profile , within the last two weeks I have had two punctures in the side walls. One in side and one out side on same nearside rear wheel. Anuone else had problems ? Are low profiles more prone to these kinds of damage ? Read more

Low profile tyres seem to me to be very sensitive to tyre pressure and lose pressure very easily. Therefore check VERY regularly. Driving on anything other than billiard table smooth tarmac gives them a very hard time and knocks yer teeth out. Therefore you get high bills for both tyre replacement and dental treatment.

Hi guys... a ring has dropped to the floor & disappeared into the floorpan on my friend's A4 (it's the current shape). Can't be found with fingers or torch but there are a few places it could have dropped down. He obviously doensn't want to start taking the seats out, but is willing to take it to a garage, I am loathe to get him to take it to Audi as I can see them charging £500 in labour to remove the seats & carpet, but I will if I have to, the item lost was irreplaceable. My mate lives in Hemel Hempstead, south Herts, does anyone know of a good independent (Audi / VAG?) specialist that is very honest that might be able to help please? I have a Boxster & find that the independent garages do a better job & for less money than the main dealers & for a job like this I really need somewhere honest & reliable...... Read more

Hello. I was driving my 2001 ford mondeo tdci yesterday at 70 mph when all of a sudden the engine stopped and I managed to pull over to the hard shoulder. I was then able to restart but then the engine wouldn’t go above 2,000 rpm I called the AA who plugged in a diagnostic device that came up with codes p0216 p0335 p1246 p1608 p1665 b2139. I know that the numbers relate to fuel pump and crankshaft sensor. The car no longer starts and I have already tested the crankshaft sensor which is okay. Im now at a complete loss on what to do, does anyone have any ideas

yea, the crankshaft sensor and fuel pump sensor work hand in hand together, they are both links in a long command chain and obviously there is a problem between the two hence the codes. it will need to have a ford mechanic or ford garage to sort it, take it in and....(Ask for an estimate) for the repair . Then take it from there

I've got a 2011 Fiesta. Like most modern cars, the windows are small, the pillars are wide, and visibility is inferior to older Fiestas. This is made worse by the black paint applied around the edges of each window, presumably to make the windows "fade in" to the pillars. The paint is applied in the form of dots of various sizes.

Is there any reason I shouldn't try to scape off some of the paint dots in critical areas to improve visibility a bit? I was thinking of trying one of those paint scrapers that holds a Stanley knife blade. Read more

It is called the "obscuration band" and is there to prevent the UV rays from the sun degrading the adhesive used to bond the Windscreen to the car body, each manufacturer has their own patented dotted pattern.

I cannot say how quickly the adhesive would degrade if you remove the band, however, there are patent applications on the web covering wiring concealed by the band, similar to printed circuit tracks, so be careful.

Hi I recently had a cam belt change on my car at an idependant garage, when I drove the car after about 20 miles I started to get a strange noise from the front of the car, the following day I took the car back to the garage who looked around the car, took it for a test drive and said it was probably a driveshaft. They had jacked it up, looked underneath, under the bonnet. They suggested booking it in for them to check it out fully (at no cost) I had next week as holiday so thought I would sort it out then. Yesturday I thought I would have a look myself and see if anything was rubbing, I then realised that all 4 wheel bolts were only finger tight. I tightened these, and now problem solved. Is it worth complaining to the garage? Do I have any rights? Me driving my car for 300 miles with loose wheel nuts cause any damage?

Thanks Read more

Depends on the car.

Wouldn't be surprised if there are cars out there where you have to remove the cambelt to change a headlight bulb....

Hi - Ive got an 03 Megane 1.9DCI and has been running perfectly since I bought it 3 months ago. Yesterday I went out in it twice and then went to use it again and nothing worked as if it was a flat battery - tried to jump it from our Grand scenic but still no joy - still as if was flat battery but electrices were showing life. Tested battery and it showed 12.9V.

Whilst try to jump start it with leads it showed up "Injector fault" but hasnt appeared since. Now charging battery in vain hope that it may work in morning but dont hold out any hope.... Read more

Failed starter motor? Checked wiring to starter and engine earths?

On a side note, I try to avoid jump starting any relatively modern car, especially Renaults, either as donor or recipient. Their electronics are too vulnerable to surge damage even if the jump start is done correctly (which it rarely is).

Im thinking about converting my stock halogen bulbs in my mazda 6 to HID's.

Although a straight 'plug and play' is not that bad in the mazda 6 (with an anti glare mod) i'd rather do it properly and get some HID projectors with a better cut-off and avoid blinding other road users.... Read more

I've recently done a HID conversion on a BMW motorcycle which has twin headlamp units. The dip beam is an H1 projector unit which has a built-in mask which gives an amazingly sharp cut-off so dazzle isn't a problem. I did the H7 main beam as well because the dip doesn't go off on main beam. I got the kit from Hids4u, very well presented, everything fitted and is good quality and they are technically very aware.
