We'd like to buy either a Yeti Diesel or Sportage or possibly a Qashqai (we're at the exploration stage). We're aware that there are long waiting times for Yetis, longer than what dealers say. In your experience, what are the real current waiting times on Yeti diesels? (6 months?)
Also, what is the best time to buy a car? (I remember reading it was at end of term, is that end of September?) Read more
I wonder if the new model will be available with this paint scheme?... Read more
Hi all, was looking for a bit of advice of your good selves. Ive found an audi a4 2002 (in my opinion the best looking shape) and its mint condition and has been well looked after with full service history. its a 1.8t four wheel drive model with 65k on the clock.
This will be the first vag car i will have owned and would like to know any potential down falls. bit concerned about running costs as well, so if any body has this engine id like to hear your thoughts.... Read more
I agree with 659. I had a 1999 A4 TDI - a nice car - and took it from 70k to 100k miles in two years, Budget for £500- £1000 a year for repairs once they grow older.
Check the aircon works: condensors can fail for a variety of reasons. Check for suspension clunks....
my mondeo is running superb apart from a little blip which happens as I ease off the throttle.ie when the engine is not pulling or holding back .It's more noticable on a 40mph road in cruise control.it kind of "shunts` back and forth. any one had same prob.? cheers. please excuse large text ??????????don't know what I've done. Next week we’re driving, over 2 days, from Hastings to Crieff in Scotland. The route as far as Edinburgh is as follows: A21, M25, M11, A14, A1 and A1(M), A68.
We need to stop quite frequently and I’ve found or know service areas, transport cafes or supermarket cafes over most of the route. I’m really stuck, though, on the M11 section – we found out, last time, what a disaster the Birchanger Green services are. Any suggestions?... Read more
Thanks for the good wishes, BT and Avant.
I’d already done what you suggest, Avant, before my initial post. Using your search terms, however, rather than mine, got me the website 5minutesAway, which I’d missed. That listed service stations just off J8 and J10, which could useful. Thankyou.
I really like the A68 too, but this is the first time I’ve driven it south to north.

What do we think, are kids getting brighter year on year (in which case , extrapolating back, I must be a real duffer), or is something amiss with the exam system? Read more
As much as I hate it my dear, we are in agreement on all of this. And like hell was 97 random.
You still make me laugh which today is very welcome. ...
Hi,
I have noticed that the car is loosing coolent water, because I have to fill it up every day or 2. The car never overheats on long drives, but the coolant warning light come on when I drive in heavy traffic.... Read more
Look for teltale signs of coolant leakage around the filler cap and overflow, if there is no sign of leakage anywhere else the chances are that the head gasket is leaking and pressurising the system and blowing the water out. You could try leaving the filler cap not screwed down tight. if the leakage is not to bad this could stop water loss but it also lowers the boiling point so don't thrash it.
The gaskets seem to go at around 150,,000 miles on the 1.9 engine the Hdi's usually last longer.
Hi, I’ve recently bought a Mk4 Golf 1.8T Gti (2000). I’m getting the following problem:
When in first gear, crawling along with no pedals engaged the car instead of crawling along smoothly the revs drop a little, and then recover, then they drop a little more, then recover. This causes the car to start to ‘kangaroo’ quite badly after two or three cycles of the revs dropping and recovering. I would have expected the revs to stay ‘dropped’ and pull the car along.... I'll reply. Some cars just seem prone to this most un-European behaviour. I've never had a VW but it's either a fault in the ignition or the sensors that feed it. Not a fault with the injector side.
Given the age I'd be looking at the distributor and searching for vacuum leaks....

"If she hasn't had any problems, why is she on number four?!"
She gets them on PCPs and changes them every 2 to 3 years. The first three Yarises were still as good as new when she traded them in despite quite high mileages. And yes, she probably gets her driving style from her mother (neither of them sees this forum which is just as well....)....
