Services adjacent to M11 and on A68 - John Boy

Next week we’re driving, over 2 days, from Hastings to Crieff in Scotland. The route as far as Edinburgh is as follows: A21, M25, M11, A14, A1 and A1(M), A68.

We need to stop quite frequently and I’ve found or know service areas, transport cafes or supermarket cafes over most of the route. I’m really stuck, though, on the M11 section – we found out, last time, what a disaster the Birchanger Green services are. Any suggestions?

I’d also welcome suggestions for the A68 between Darlington and Jedburgh.

If you cut the corner to the A68 just after Scotch Corner and go through Piercebridge, you will find the Piercebridge Farm shop, with tearoom etc, on the LHS of the green. Also, as you go down the hill into West Woodburn on the RHS, is a "tearoom", which is also tried and tested. There are various places to eat in Jedburgh, which you may already know of. If you go via Coldstream, there is/was a tearoom at Milfield and "eateries" in Coldstream.

Thanks very much for those two, Fernando. I’m really grateful. They’re perfectly spaced and I should think I’ll enjoy driving along that B road to reach the first one.

I hope you have a good time John Boy. I just spent a week in the Blairgowrie area of Perthshire. Really lovely.

Good luck - I love the A68, whiuch isn't the fastest route but certainly more interesting than other main-road routes. And there are those wonderfully evocative place-names: Tow Law, Riding Mill, Kirkwhelpington, Byrness and on to Carfraemill.

For M11 try googling 'off the motorway' and you'll see some websites that give helpful suggestions.

Thanks for the good wishes, BT and Avant.

I’d already done what you suggest, Avant, before my initial post. Using your search terms, however, rather than mine, got me the website 5minutesAway, which I’d missed. That listed service stations just off J8 and J10, which could useful. Thankyou.

I really like the A68 too, but this is the first time I’ve driven it south to north.
