Was at Woburn Safari Park today test-driving (I know, I know – I spend my life test-driving but not purchasing ...) the Hyundai i40 Tourer. It's pretty damn fine in fact (well, the the 1.7 CRDI 136PS Premium auto variant was to my mind) – although I obviously couldn't put it through it's paces whilst inching round the lion enclosure, etc. – so will doubtless follow today up with a normal 'on-road' test-drive once they hit the dealers (Sept).

However, I digress ...... Read more

I was wondering if anyone could possibly help me here.

I set off and realised my left dipped headlight was not working (full beam was fine though)... Read more

Is it safe to simply leave it as it is, surely it would be putting too much stress on the system? Perhaps effecting the relay for the right hand side?

Hi All,

I wonder if anyone could recommend a reasonable, competent VW specialist in the Bournemouth/Poole area? I'm after some engine diagnostics & tuning, and brakes; fairly standard stuff. Anybody have any suggestions?... Read more

Yes, it's not a big problem, but I had Autotrader bookmarked, and for years it has taken me to Autotrader UK, then suddenly it started going to Autotrader NI. I blame Bill Gates myself.

Just had problems with tyre presuure sensors. Cost £70 each plus £70 fitting each. ECU needs reprogramming afterwards to recognise new ones.

Then problem with parking sensor. Cost £70 each plus, you've guessed it, £70 fitting.... Read more

If anyone has a rattle coming from their 5008 and cant place it try the small plastic tabs on the roof rails for covering the attachments for the roof bars. My car was in 3 times and the dealer couldn't find where the noise was coming from. Found it myself. Would recommend the car though. Read more

Hi, I need some help.

My central Locking only works with the ignition on. It worked fine when I bought the car but after the first day the central locking stopped working. When I lock the car with the ignition still on the central locking works. But if I turn the car off, the central locking will not work and there is a clicking sound by the CD player?... Read more

Lost its permanent live feed by the sounds of it. Most likely a fuse as the relay is clicking from what you described.

hi, my 2006 vectra is making a rumbling type noise which starts at 30mph and then seems to dissappear above 40mph, if i then take my foot off the accelerator and start to slow down (without braking) it reappears between the 30-40 mark, its hard to describe but i can feel it as well as hear it, also occasionally when idling i can hear a swish noise from the engine bay, like, swish...swish...swish...swish...etc, someone told me its a belt?

just to add the car has recently passed its mot.

any ideas greatly appreciated.

p.s are vectras known for loud road noise. Read more

Am looking to replace the OEM Kumho Solus 17 tyres on my car which have been on since new. I have always been a Michelin buyer in the past but have been staggered to see how much these would cost to put on my car (about 85 pounds a tyre) - even though this is par for the course for a premium tyre.

Two questions really and apologies of this is going over old ground. I don't want to skimp on safety but my car is hardly a F1 flyer - it gets me to work and back and the occasional longer trip. Are the premium tyre brands 'really' worth the premium price or are a good mid-range tyre a safet bet?... Read more

''The reason? Aquaplaning, there's enough weight over the front to keep things in check but you need plenty of tread-depth to clear the water from the lightly loaded rear tyres. Most tyre fitters advise you to rotate tyres to even out wear coz that's what you did in the old days - they are putting your life at risk through ill-informed dogma''.

And the light rear end aquaplanes after driving through the channel that has just been cleared of standing water by the front tyres?

Dangerous are those who run their tyres right down to 1.6mm in the best bits wherever they happen to be on the car, might as well remove the tyre and drive on inner tubes for all the wet grip they'll have....
