Isn't it annoying when you see an offer such as "38% off a New Mondeo Zetec TDCi" and then follow up to find out it is not new after all and should be in the USED CARS for sale section! Read more
My boyfriend recently bought a second hand corsa from a garage.
It passed its MOT a few weeks ago, but as he was planning to visit me (2 and a half hour drive) I wanted him to have it checked over and serviced.... Read more
If it is that badly corroded and the MOT is a genuine one, VOSA should be informed so whoever issued the MOT is investigated. Unless someone's regularly sprayed the underside with hot salt water it can hardly have rotted that much since the test, can it?
I have had nothing but problems with my car over the years mainly the HG, water pump etc..........touch wood it has been fine since winter.............my car seems to have trouble with the very cold winters we have been having.............can anybody recommend which anti-freeze to use and whether i should have the coolant system flushed out by a mechanic.............i just want to do everything possible to avoid another knightmare winter..........the car wouldn't always start............one day is just starting overheating.....then it was fine in the afternoon and i never had anymore trouble with it Read more

When driving our voyager as it gets just around 2000 rpm it starts lurching and jumping, followed by some black smoke exiting the exhaust.
It does this in all gears. It drives fine, then jumps, then again, and can this 4 or 5 times in a row, then stops, and then starts again when accelerating.... Read more
Thanks Peter.
We have been away, so I thought I would check the car over as it had been sat....
Can someone please help me? Basically, I bought a Mazda 5 two weeks ago and it has already been back in the garage with some problems. The garage says they can't find any faults and now, to top it all off the battery has died. I want to return the car for a refund and just wondered if anyone here can help me with advice on this or point me in the right direction. I know there is a 30 day guarantee but the garage haven't told me the conditions. I should point out that I phoned the garage yesterday to tell them I am still having problems and they said they would arrange for the car to be picked up and checked out but I havent heard back from them since.
The problems are:-
intermittent clunking noise when in low gear and resistance in acceleration
steering wheel shuddering at 50mph
power door sometimes fails
fog light slipped and wont go back in
slow puncture
(dead battery)
Please can someone advise asap before the 30 days is up as I just feel I paid a lot of money for this car and I just want my money back! Read more
You should really give them a chance to recify the problems. From your symptoms above could the wheel shuddering be due to incorrect tyre pressure du to slow puncture. Dead battery and Power door failing could be related.
You don't say how old the car is orr what you paid for it which could be very relevant to getting your money back....
Hi,
A friend wishes to replace the badly kerbed alloys (Thor design) fitted with 225/45/17 pirelli tyres with genuine Volvo replacements (used) rather than have them refurbished..... Read more
A 7" wheel will take a 225 tyre but it is pretty marginal. Lots of rim protection from the tyre though!

Hi,
When I engage reverse my parking sensors start beeping indicating that I am close to hitting an object, this happens even when it is clear. this is an inconsistent problem as 1 in 3 times it works fine. My local BMW dealer has ran it through their diagnostics however everything indicates it is working normally. the next step they have suggested is to remove the bumper and take a look. Before I commit to paying their labour rates for doing this does anyone have any ideas as to what it can be? I have done the obvious of checking the sensors are clean..this is a really annoying problem! Car is '04 with 85000 miles on the clock.... Read more
Thanks madf - you were correct one was faulty.
I took the car to an independent specialist BMW garage for a 2nd opinion, they found and replaced one of the faulty sensors. They also managed to fix 3 other non related problems where the main dealer had told me that they could not be fixed but had to replace items, so have saved a lot of money too....
Having reconnected the battery after doing some unrelated work I had to reset the satnav to UK and English language. When you set to English you are offered Km or Miles and I selected Miles. The setting for the satnav was changed correctly and guidance was displayed in miles, however for the trip computer all distances are shown in Kilometres - Range, Distance, litres per 100 Km etc - and no matter what I do it will not change back to miles. I tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery again and also removing the CD from the unit under the passenger seat and reinserting it but to no avail. I am afraid metric means nothing to me and I want miles and gallons back. I have the TNS300 manual and have followed the instructions to the letter. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can reset my device.
Sadly, that sounds like electronic trickery that only a dealer has the equipment to reset.
I've just bought the above car. I'm pleased to say that apart from a dodgy egr valve, the car seems great! However, I have the curse of suffering from multiple chemical sensitivity, which means I am badly affected by... so many things including the insides of many cars. In fact I react to about 40% of cars... brand new ones are definitely out of the question because of the off-gassing and anything too old can often make me feel rough too.
Anyway, back to the Mondeo, I've found I am reacting a bit when inside this. It feels to me as if there's something ever so slightly sooty about the air. Also there's an ever so feint oily smell (I'm quite sure no one else would notice either of these btw... I'm really super sensitive!).... Read more
You need BG Frigi Fresh sprayed directly into the pollen filter for 30 sec with the AC on then let it run for 10 min.

Well its true its rare anybody pays the list price, you'd only do that if it was a somewhat rare or specialist car heavily in demand, in which case some people have been known to pay above the list price merely to que-jump for it. But the fact is just sticking a number plate on it does knock a few quid off and the saving is more notable on the sort of car that the dealers are giving minimal discounts on, small economical hatchbacks or other cars which hold their price really well.
